French Door Fridge with High Volume Ice Maker
Comments (2)I am in the same boat. We need a 29 cu ft, 36" wide FD for a family of 6 that has a lot of family and friends over. LG, Samsung and GE(regular GE - not the Profile model) have 29 cu ft dual icemaker FD full depth models. One appliance store we are dealing with believes that Kitchen Aid does too but I cannot find it. They are double checking that for us. Ideally I'd love to do KA FD and DW - as long as KA truly has a 29 cu ft dual icemaker. People are kind of scaring me away from GE, but I really liked the "feel" of their fridge - space light and quality over the LG and Samsung. Although the LG and Samsungs get high marks no doubt! I just know we don;t have room for a separate icemaker. In the hot south, we really need the dual icemaker!! Anyway, that's what we've researched thus far. Good luck!...See MoreLiebherr HC2062 Doors and Ice Maker
Comments (24)We have the standalone (counter-depth) Liebherr CS2062, 36" French Door / Double Bottom Drawer Freezer unit. It was delivered and installed in May 2010. Overall we are very satisfied. Yes, we had a bit of a learning curve to follow in switching from our ancient Amana 'American-style' fridge to the Liebherr's Euro configuration: different storage containers (rectangles work best), and some adjustments to how we think about what-goes-where were in order. We are both ~5'4" tall (or short, if you will), but have had little trouble storing and reaching items on the top shelf. We removed one door shelf to create space for tall bottles and have not missed it. As other posters have pointed out, the excellent lighting and clean layout make it easy to see all the contents. Liebherr ain't kidding when they tout the strength of their glass shelves -- we stored a 25lb Thanksgiving turkey in a roasting pan on that top shelf along with the usual load of condiments, beer bottles and the like. There is no gasket mod available to make the CS2062 refrigerator doors self-closing, but we have simply gotten better at closing the doors (or hearing the alarm) -- and we have never seen the temperature deviate from settings, even when the alarm's been on for many minutes. The freezer drawers DO self close, once pushed to within the last several inches of travel. In late November 2010 (i.e., after six months of use) the IceMaker failed as follows: it stopped releasing the frozen cubes into the drawer, instead allowing water to (over?)flow into the drawer and form a single block of ice at the bottom. The IceMaker alarm light blinked, indicating the fault, and we then shut off the IceMaker. We contacted our dealer (Eurostoves), who immediately put Liebherr customer service in touch with us. They have promised a replacement part and installation to be scheduled in 4-5 business days. I will post a followup to detail the repair and results. A note to potential Liebherr buyers that I haven't seen elsewhere, regarding the ongoing cost of ownership: The IceMaker's water filter cartridge, available (not unexpectedly) only from Liebherr, is priced at $65, plus shipping, and must be replaced 2-3 times per year, depending (of course) on the amount of solids in your water and the amount of ice you consume....See MoreSub-Zero Freezer Drawer Ice Maker not working
Comments (9)Give us the model # for the fridge, please, that way we will know what ice maker it has in it. I "believe" it was Antss that posted the ice makers were made by Whirlpool. If that be the case, mine died after about 5 years and was easily replaced my me for about $125, (it's a plug in). The way those ice makers work, is after the cubes are made, it has a heater that comes on just before the motor comes on that turns the device (kind of a "auger thing") that removes the ice from the tray. If that heater is burned out, (like mine was), then the motor is just not strong enough to remove those cubes, without slightly heating them first. If you just push on the cubes, (gently), you should not busticate anything. Not sure I would use a hair dryer to heat it a bit, as you are around water and a ground, and if~~~~~~well you might be missing a lot longer than you were, this time, (LOL). Comments (10)You didn't say which models you have but I've installed a few of these. 1. you need to see the word ice in the control display. 2. your bucket needs to be locked in place and fully pushed back. 3. most Icemakers won't produce ice until the Freezer has been running several hours. I usually tell my customers that they wont see ice until 12+ hours have passed. The Freezer need to get cold enough for ice and the icemaker needs to cycle a couple times before water gets to it. 4. the Freedoms seem to make their fastest ice production when the freezer is set for -4ºF. At least thats what their techline told me. 5. Is the water actually turned on? 6. Is the filter fully turned and locked into place? I have seen a couple units where the filter was not fully turned to lock and that shuts the water off. I hope this helps Jakvis...See MoreOneLuckyGirl
