Hi Newbie! I've wondered what happened to you! Haven't seen you over in Kitchens for a long time! First, congrats on expecting a baby! Exciting! You're on the right path trying to tie up all these loose ends before May. Have you thought about posting over in Kitchens also? So many there have heavily researched lights that someone may have seen the perfect fixture for you. Plus, I know everyone would like to see your progress. :) When I saw that first WE fixture, I thought of a Barbara Cosgrove pendant I like. It echoes the shape. I'll link it below. You might look around for other lights on that site, too. Some of them get into the $$$ range though. I don't care for the mod WE glass cluster you just posted. How far apart would the peninsula and banquette fixtures be? I'm thinking that you might want to scrap the peninsula pendant... Bumping... We visited a floor store this weekend and brought home many samples of laminate and vinyl floor planks, all wood-look. I think we are leaning towards one of the higher end laminate wood-looks and using it throughout the foyer, DR, and whole kitchen. My new questions are: Does high-end laminate scratch or scuff under barstools or dining table chairs? How does high end laminate hold up under water? The salesman we talked to was very confident that the choices we took home would be fine in areas where there could be water from time to time. What sort of wood tone should I look for that will look nice with the maple cabinets in the kitchen, and the dark cherry dining set in the DR? Does anyone think I would be better off design-wise with tile-looking laminate in the kitchen, then wood-looking laminate in the foyer/DR?? (don't want real tile, too hard and too cold for my tastes) Also, does anyone know anything about vinyl planking? The sample we looked at had a lot of nice texture and was realistic looking. Might be a nice option since it will be in the kitchen and foyer, both watery places from time to time. It is a floating floor that glues at the seams on tabs that interlock. Anita, I think the set you like is beautiful. However, consider this, legs like that table has will not allow for extra chairs. If the same table was a pedestal table you could get 2 chairs down each side. I had a Wicker table with a 48" glass top before this table and I had six chairs. I now have a 46" octagon table with 4 big chairs and two smaller chairs with low backs. Don't let those small chairs deceive you, they are full size chairs the seats are as high as the ladder back chairs, just the back is smaller. I can get chairs 6 around this table and have squeezed 8 around it in a pinch. I think 4 x 3 would work well, but like I suggested watch the table legs, they can hinder the amount of chairs you can use. I also had a bench at one time (inside the bay window) we were a family of 5 when our kids were growing up, so we had 3 chairs and a bench. This nook measures 9 foot 1" wide from the counter (with the bananas on it) to the end of the wall. . .The bay window is 8Ft wide. I took this tonight after I measured... from the center of the bay window to the end of the first glass pane on the french door the measurement is 8 ft. Also notice that the chairs are not huge and they fit under the table well. ( they can go in even further than the photo shows) This allows more walking around room when the table is not in use. I am a very visual person and use a lot of visual aids when doing or building furniture. I suggest you take your current table and add a faux top with wood, or cardboard or anything that would mock up the size table you want in the room, add the chairs and see what it looks like. Also consider a 42" round table (pedestal) with a leaf. It would give you a lot more room for everyday use for 4 people and when the grandparents come put in the leaf. We made this table 48" and when it was all done and we put the chairs around it I saw that if it was a tad smaller the chairs would fit under neath better so we cut it down to 46". Every little bit helps in a small area. Hope this helps. joann

I like the round table, actually. It isn't enough table space to have a big knife-and-fork meal like a porterhouse ... but it is plenty of landing space for a cup of coffee and a tablet. Plus it is probably easier to navigate in or out of the innermost seats compared to a square table. I'm glad you were able to find a solution that works with what you have!
