Anyone ever order from Countryside Roses?
Comments (20)Well I am happy to announce my roses arrived today from Countryside and so far they look great! Very healthy looking, small, but healthy. I'm just hoping they really take off this summer! I just got home and saw the box on the steps. Didn't even wait to get in the house just stopped right their put down my stuff and opened the box! I recieved Blush Noisette, Duchesse de Brabant, and Mac. I ordered 4 others from Ashdown (Hermosa, Mrs Dudley Cross, Marie Pavie, Sombreuil) and they are to arrive at the end of the month. I'm getting so excited that spring as finally arrived here. Their is already a bud on Lamarque! Meghan...See MoreAnyone ever get a restraining order?
Comments (35)Your friend still needs to be careful. Our daughter had an ex semi-boyfriend get crazy when he got more serious than she wanted to get. She got a restraining order. And things got quiet for about 2 weeks and then he came back with a vengeance. My God, the stuff he did AFTER THE RO was worse than what he had done before. Actually made an imprint of her house key through the lock (I didn't know you could do this)and had a duplicate key made. Bought an apparatus to get into a locked car, etc. Slashed 4 tires of her car. Went into her home, listened to her phone messages and called everyone on her phone list to threaten them if they befriended her over him. He even trashed the businesses her other dates worked at. The scary thing, among others, was that he was in the Coast Guard and was licensed to carry a gun. We hired a PI and did a background search on him. We learned he had done this in several states to other women and simply was transferred to other cities when he became a liability to the Coast Guard. He,too, was a real charmer but a real evil man. The PI followed him and had proof through phone records and pictures and fingerprints on the exterior of her car and in her car as well that he was violating the law. This was done over a period of 6 weeks and it cost us a fortune to have round the clock coverage of this man. But it also gave us protection for our daughter since investigators were right there should he have attempted to harm her. Well, we had proof but the police were dragging their heels. We got in contact with his commander on the base; met with her and he was permanently relieved of his duties. Then 2 weeks later, right after he called my daughter in the middle of the night, rambling and threatening, to explain it was all a misunderstanding, we left our home at 2:00 AM and drove all night to his home (crazy, I know) but we were desperate. We spoke to him and made him a firm offer he couldn't refuse. Well, what we said must have made an impression, because he packed his bags, left town and hasn't been seen there since. And that's been about 8 years ago. The police never did anything because the charmer explained it was simply a love affair gone wrong. Can you believe that?...See MoreWhat is the most memorable holiday meal you have ever had?
Comments (51)A few years back my wife and I were traveling on business in Brazil over Thanksgiving. A professor my wife was working with took us and several of the students to a churrascaria for dinner on Thanksgiving. (A churrascaria is a restaurant where servers roam around the restaurant with skewers of various cooked meats, continually stopping at each table to carve off some to everyone at the table) While there I mentioned that it was the US holiday of Thanksgiving and described it to the professor and the Brazilian students in general terms: get together with family and/or friends and have a large meal together, and described the "traditional" Thanksgiving meal. I was merely trying to make conversation, and make the point that what we were doing was pretty similar to the Thanksgiving tradition. However the professor responded "I'll see what I can do" and flagged the head waiter over, and spoke to him in rapid Portuguese. The waiter responded to us "We don't have any turkey but I'll see what we can do." and disappeared into the kitchen. About 10 minutes later he emerged from the kitchen followed by a server carrying a large skewer of meat, he presented it to us with a big beaming smile saying "This is as close as we could get to turkey. It's Ostrich." It didn't taste even a little like turkey, but it was delicious....See MoreBest place to order roses
Comments (22)I bought quite a few from ARE and they were fine each time. Will definitely buy from them again. I love the prices at Chamblee's and most of them arrived blooming and in great shape, but for me, it was only a one or two day trip versus Heirloom's which has sometimes taken two weeks on UPS. In fact, I just got a notice that UPS is delayed again but at least it's not 100+! But, my Chamblee's orders arrived with a white coating on them which the nice man on the phone said was a fungicide and not to worry. There is a bit more prickly man there but thankfully he didn't answer the phone, lol! Cotto, I have a feeling that is who you spoke with. I've spent thousands, yikes, with Heirloom and their customer service has been quite good, though they have had some website issues. Theirs arrive defoliated so look like little sticks versus Chamblees with blooms but fungicide and limited selection. I usually can't find what I need in stock at A Reverence for Roses but the bands arrived quickly with the plants big and in great shape. They are organic I believe. I agree with Holly regarding the one not being my first choice. Mine arrived as frail little things, soaking wet, and covered in black patches from the trip. Maybe it was just the packing but there was no comparison in the size also. Love their selection though. I just started preparing an order a few days ago for Northland so excited to try them!...See Moremaddielee
