I'm very late to the opinion party here, but I just wanted to point out that I think it's wonderful to partner with our children on decorating their rooms. Letting them experiment with color, helping them with furniture placement and other design elements ... I think essentially it's really helping to develop the inner decorator in each of them! Think how many adults are afraid to paint anything other than white -- would life be different if their moms & dads had encouraged color exploration in their own homes and rooms? Last year, before loading some gorgeous Art Deco furniture we bought off Craigslist into our then 10-y.o. daughter's room, I talked to her about how the yellow that was on the walls (which she chose) just didn't work with the light bird's eye maple furniture. (Truly, it was going to be a terrible combo). We talked about potential colors and we went to the paint store. She went straight to BM French Lilac as her one and only choice. I, of course, picked out several other paint chips for variety and home we went. Well, we ended up with her first, instinctive choice and the room is just gorgeous. It better be, because that furniture is never going anywhere. Heavy doesn't even begin to describe it! LOL Anyway, I love that my daughter loves her room, and that she chose the paint. I never had that chance when I was a kid!

DkHaas--I REALLY like those blue ombre curtains! Much softer but same idea as the bold navy/white stripe. And of course, mdln, I am not going to go out and buy what I want without consulting her! I probably won't show her this whole thread, mostly because I can't buy/replicate every thing that is on it, but I will DEFINITELY show her some of the ideas/color combos that have been presented! She has already seen some of the ideas--some of which she said, "NO WAY" to and some she was more into. She's pretty head strong--she knows what she likes and dislikes. lol We are both putting this room together, but I am the one paying for it, and with that comes "some say" within reason. :) HavingFun, you are right--I would not have thought to look on Amazon unless I knew something specific I wanted. I am glad to hear you say that the quality is not bad--that is something I would have been worried about.

Judging by the bed, you've made a great start. That's a good shade of red. I think the addition of the taupe/beige is important -- red and taupe always look very French to me -- and I think if the green you use is a very dark green, and then used very sparingly, it will work. Where else in the room were you thinking of adding/using red and green?

@ Matthias - I am not as hardy as some here [g], but there is something about sleeping in a cool/cold room when you are snug under a warm comforter, that you enjoy. I'm not sure what the reason is either. I do think that if you grew up in a cold room with warm covers, maybe there is something nostalgic about it. I know I had times growing up, visiting family in the summer at 'cottages' that didn't have heat, when we had great family times, that is a lasting memory. It is pretty amazing how warm and cozy you can feel. I never did feel that blankets ever produced that but a down comforter, really does. Of course, then. you have to get out of the bed into the cold room. lol. But nowadays, that is what is great about a programable thermostat. It's also about the fresh air. The house gets really stuffy and stale with the windows shut all winter. It's good for you too, when you are sleeping to be breathing all that fresh air.
