Comments (75)Hi Perennial! :O) Great to see you post, it HAS been awhile, huh? Baby's doing fine (her name is Lili), she'll be 1 in December...and we've got another one on the way in April (long story, and a true miracle!). I do like your idea, BTW...it's kinda like a white elephant, isn't it? Sounds like it'd be fun, in any case! Okay, Dan....here's the deal....I almost NEVER use a written recipe when I make soup! I'm a "what ever I darn well feel like" kinda gal. I only use recipes as *guidelines* when I'm baking...never cooking. Anyway...here's what I usually do when I make chicken soup (keep in mind, I make enough to feed 10 people or so!): I take about 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts; one large, chopped onion; 4-6 crushed garlic cloves(large ones); red pepper flakes (probably about 2 tsps); 2-3 chopped jalapeno peppers; fresh chopped oregano (or dried, probably about 1 tsp dried, a good fistful if fresh); salt & pepper......I boil all of that in a stock pot that's about 3/4 full of water. Boil it until the chicken starts falling apart, usually 1.5-2 hours. Then, I take the chicken out & shred it...pop it back in there, add bunches of chopped carrots & celery stalks, plus some more spices- paprika, cumin, tiny pinch of sage, curry.....and whatever else I feel like it needs. Let that boil for another hour, then I add either some cooked rice or uncooked noodles- just however much I want to fill in. Sometimes I like a lot of broth, sometimes I don't. That's basically it- just throw & go, is my motto. :o) Oh, and when there is a sick person in the house (with a cold or such), I usually go for more spice & more broth. I've even thrown some lemon balm in there, along with catnip & other "cold fighting" herbs. I don't think I cook the same soup twice. LOL...See MoreNovember 1-15
Comments (14)Hi All, I did not fall off the face of the earth but I feel a little like I did. Sharon, that proverb about the bee stinging the face with tears seems to fit. When it rains, it pours. Since Ike and our daughter's house getting hit badly, we have also been dealing with my DH's Mom coming to live with us after she fell getting out of the shower and had to go to the emergancy room. It seemed settled and then she changed her mind and went back home. A real emotional roller coaster ride. I know it has all come out for the best but it has been a ride. Then our computer has been on the "fritz", still not all fixed but at least I can now read email and go to GW. Sharon, I have been reading about your GB and you are all in my prayers and will be praying for you all tomorrow. Rosa, sounds like your life has been as exciting as mine! Hope things are getting better. The weather has been beautiful here but we need rain which they are promising us for next week. I did get back to my walking last week and plan to try to stay on track this week. I think we are getting back to some routine with the exception of my DD's house. They are still waiting on the insurance company which doesn't seem to be moving. Her children are in school and they are trying to stay in their routine as much as possible. She is hanging in there and they are in their house but it is a mess. She has it as cleaned as possible but with most of the flooring pulled up and a lot of sheetrock down it is hard. If they were not 4 1/2 hrs away they could stay with us but she is determined to keep them in their school. I'm proud of her attitude! Made a birthday block today for Jan. Have not been sewing much and just had to do something. KOKO and have a great week. Sally aka Nana24...See MoreThe Game for November CXVIII

It doesn't make heads like broccoli, but it made wonderful greens that didn't mind our summer and laughed at bugs. I need to remember to plant it next year. Nancy, I've frozen mushrooms like that, but I thought you bought them frozen, LOL. Funny Rick I know the terms slave cylinder and master cylinder from a truck that sat in our front yard for a long time. Ron kept replacing parts on the clutch. He finally sold the truck. If I remember correctly Totally Tomatoes was a good company that was sold. Not so good since then. Seeds n Such has beefmaster. I think the owner used to own totally tomatoes. (I think this was a Đawn story.) I have purchased from Seeds n such. They're ok, and I think when someone had problems with germination they were quick to resolve the issue. We do buy canned soup, makes a quick lunch. I prefer Progresso brand. They have great tomato Basil soup. And every now and then I like old fashioned Campbell's tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. That brings back memories. (I am very nostalgic today). Moni, native Ginger and what comes from the store are different. I tried to grow grocery store Ginger without success. I did grow it with a start from Companion Plants .https://www.companionplants.com/catalog/ Also turmeric. Turmeric is a beautiful plant. I even had it bloom. I don't know where Danny got his, which I believe he said was native wild ginger. Re: holidays...I've never been much of a Baker. Occasional cookies. But I realized when Travis was 2 he didn't understand the book with cookies coming out of the oven because he'd never seen it. I always felt overwhelmed taking care of kids and house, so Christmas added to my stress. I don't have those stresses now, but memories make me less then than enthusiastic. Of course Christmas morning is good, just not the lead up. Ok, this was done in "colornote" and the keyboard behaved. In Houzz I would type something and it would jump over to before the last letter of the previous word and type the next word there. Sometimes it skipped letters, usually vowels. It did the same when I changed keyboard apps. I changed to Firefox because chrome gave me trouble with Houzz. I suspect it is houzz, but I don't know where to go now. I don't have room for another app. Also, today FB won't let me paste. Instead of the paste option it says auto complete. If I press that, it asks for a password. In a comment. WTF? Enjoy your weekend....See More
