What's best to clean Kitty Litter on Hardwood floors?
Comments (14)I literally tried to do so many of these solutions that I could find all over the internet and none of them worked for me at least. My cat used to be the type that would kick her litter out of the box and then pee on it and that's why it was on my floor in the first place. I ended up just buying a thin hard bristled scrub brush and Pledge Gentle Wood Floor Cleaner from Walmart and I got down and scrubbed it out of the grains of my wood floor. It got it all out though! This may mess with the longevity of the floor but honestly I am in an apartment and I just need the stain to be gone. I guess if you need to you can get wood refinishing polish but I don't even think the apartments here got finished in the first place. Lmao. I hope this can help someone!...See Morehardwood (not engineerd) for floating floor?
Comments (7)You may want to visit the Carlisle Wood Flooring website linked below. I'm ordering their solid wood floor to glue down on a concrete slab, and I believe their wood can also be used over radiant heat. I understand this is because they only use old-growth wood (at least 200 years old) and also cure the wood over a one year period, so there's no moisture left. (Sorry if I'm not using the correct terms - just a consumer here.) I've always loved their wide-plank floors that I've seen in their advertisements, but assumed I couldn't use the product because we're on a slab, so I'm really happy that I did my research here on GW and found out this isn't the case. So far, I've been extremely happy with the great customer service and knowledge of my sales rep, and they'll send you tons of information and floor samples to help you make your choice. The website is also very informative. Oh - and the floors are gorgeous! They offer old-growth and antique walnut, oak, chestnut, pine, etc. They're based in New Hampshire but I visited their new showroom in California because I had to see the product in person before ordering. We went with the intention of ordering white oak or walnut but fell in love with the wide-planked (up to 20" wide and 16' long) white eastern pine. We ordered 13" to 17" and they're throwing in enough 20" wide planks to give us a few runs at no extra cost. Cost is $8 sf - the same as the engineered merbau used in my dd's room. It starts at $6 sf for thinner planks, and I believe pricing for other woods is listed on the website. We're also ordering an antique beam from them to be used as a mantle for our fireplace, and I believe it's $3-400 for one 7ft long. Comments (16)We have over 2500 s.f. of hardwood in our home. I can't imagine the amount of Swiffer sheets I would need to use to clean my floor. For light dusting, I use a wide dust mop (sold in janitorial stores) -- it's probably about 3 feet wide and breezes through my floors. For more through cleaning, I use my central vac with the hardwood floor brush. Since we have a dog that loves to get little pawprints or water drips from her bowl all over the place, I periodically use a damp mop with only a couple drops of dish detergent in the bucket. I do a small area, then immediately dry thoroughly with large towel. I never use Murphy's. I would be very hesitant to use a vacuum because dirt gets embedded on the wheels and the weight of the vacuum along with that dirt may scratch the surface....See MoreMy new hardwood flooring
Comments (21)Thanks for all the kind responses! I passed out last night at 9:00 and got up at 7:00 to try and start cleaning up again. Yes, this has been our fastest makeover to date. This isn't normal for us but a little saving and tax refund helped make this happen. One day when we finish unpacking and get the other rooms cleared out I'll have a before and after pic post of all of our remodeling efforts. Our house was built in 1986 and the previous owner had wallpaper in every room..it was terrible! So, as I've said numerous times in my other posts, "We're trying to get rid of 3100 sqft of 1986" ha ha The wall color is SW Samovar Silver and the fireplace is SW Misty. We actually put up SW Foggy which is two shades darker but it looked like cinder block. Maybe it would look different with the new flooring but we're content for now :) I did not install the flooring by myself. I had a couple friends over and I was their assistant for the day. It took us 7 hours from start to finish. Just a side note: I really LOVE Craigslist...We didn't want to bother with hauling all the old carpet, padding, tackstrips and scrap wood away so I posted, "Make a quick $50 and come get our mess". Well, two hours later someone was here to clean it up!...See MoreNathan
