Comments (11)When my mother was alive, my two sisters and their families and I went to her house for Thanksgiving--for two of us it involved plane flights. I arrived several days early to help, and it seems she had decided not to make a turkey at home but to get one cooked from a very fine Italian shop that specialized in fine meats. When we picked it up from their coolers, I was horrified to see that the stuffing was still in the bird, but she insisted that it would be all right. Thanksgiving morning we get all the sides ready, we put the the bird in the oven to heat, the guests are arriving (there are almost 20 of us by now) and when my sister takes the turkey from the oven, she gasps "Oh, my God, it smells bad!" I volunteered to make the announcement to the hungry troops. "Here's the bad news, folks," I said. "The bird is rotten. The good news is that none of us have eaten it." We ordered out for pizza and had pizza with all the turkey trimmings: cranberry relish, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, brussels sprouts, etc. My mother got her money back Monday, and the fine little shop closed several months later....See MoreDown under kitchen reveal
Comments (24)Hi nancy and all, my cooktop set up is geared towards Asian cooking. There are a lot of stir frying, deep frying, and steaming in my cookbook. The basic idea is to be able to get at least two woks going at the same time, or a wok and a large pot for soup or stock, or a big pan and a big pot for pasta and sauce. From experience, I don't like front and back hob set up that much as I tend to use only the front burners. With panoramic set up I can access pots and pans easier. This lead to dominos set up because I also want to have induction in the mix. Each unit is 13" wide and is set 2 1/4" apart. They sit under a 48" wide hood insert. For this set up, I can have three domestic woks 14"-15" going at the same time. The induction hob even works well with round bottom wok. I use it with induction wok adapter from Electrolux and De Buyer. I can stir fry all right on induction, it is also pretty good for deep frying. For example, I can set up the middle hob for deep frying, then I can just leave the hot wok and oil on the hob while finishing up the dish on other wok. A dish like sweet and sour pork comes to mind. The middle induction unit is also a bridge induction where a rectangular griddle can be use on it for indoor grilling. I use Lodge 16"x9" griddle as well as a smaller Le creuset with induction hob. I have grown to like the induction unit so much. It is my first induction hob, and I am really falling for it. So versatile, it does low heat work much better than my gas burner, boiling liquid is also uber fast....See MoreWhole Fish as Fertilizer-Best way to mask smell from digging critters
Comments (1)Dogs will dig that deep to pull up garbage. I'd think nothing is going to keep an animal with a nose like theirs from smelling something like a decomposing fish. Maybe you should just use organic fertilizer instead. Even then there can be problems with scavenging animals digging where blood meal, bone meal and maybe even fish emulsion have been applied. So a whole fish will probably really bring them....See More- 5 years ago
