How long do watermelon vines grow?
Comments (6)The taste is ok, just the amount of seeds made it a pain to eat. We did Crimson Sweet ? last year in place of those and the vines didn't get too unruly. I placed a wire A-frame down the center. Those were better melons for us. Larger melons, more melons, and not a lot of seeds. I imagine with a little pruning you could grow a variety like that in a 3 foot deep terrace....See MoreBaby Tears
Comments (23)Could somebody please help me with this impossible plant! =( I have been trying to grow Baby's Tears (Soleirolia soleirolii) on and off for many years now. I have tried growing it from cuttings, I have tried buying a thriving pot of it from a nursery, I have tried growing it in full sun, muted sun, partial sun, full shade, I've tried indoors, outdoors, in doorways, I've tried everything from submerging it, to well watered, to lightly watered, to no water at all, and everything between, and for the life of me I can not seem to keep this plant alive for more than a week or two no matter what I try!! I'm in Australia, the temperatures here range from a little below 0C/33F in the coldest part of a winter night, to about 45C/113F at the peak of a hot summer. Average temp year round would be between 10C/50F to 20C/58F. I have plenty of locations available for every possible degree of sunlight, indoor or outdoor. If anybody can tell me what the optimal conditions for keeping one of these alive, or what I can do to minimize my chances of killing my next attempt, I would be very grateful! Thanks in advance! Comments (1)Many of pick at blush/color break and let the fruit finish ripening indoors. You'll find many discussions here about the advantages of this. That way you avoid the loss of the fruit to pests or weather, splitting, or rotting. Once the fruit has turned fully red on the vine it will begin to decline quickly. Indeed once it is fully red on the outside, the center of the fruit has already begun to go over-ripe. How quickly depends on many factors. So to avoid fruit loss it is best to pick before it is fully red/ripe. Nothing is gained by leaving it on the vine and much can be lost. Dave...See MoreBIG happy tears! (kinda long)
Comments (11)That is a wonderful story. I love that you are both life long friends. That really is special. I remember when I had my first two kids, I was really loved that I was young when I had them, so I could relate somewhat. Then Carlie came as a surprise at 38 also, and I also love being an older mom. I always try to remember to cherish her being little as I truly do know how quickly they grow.... first hand, not from someone telling me. You know.... Welcome to the world Joseph, blessings to your family!...See More- 5 years ago
