BIG happy tears! (kinda long)

My life-long friend had her first baby yesterday and I am just thrilled. I can't believe the tears that are flowing down my face right now. I just got off the phone with her younger sister. The nurses were in talking with her when I called so I haven't had the chance to talk to her yet. She had a scheduled C-section because her baby was breach. I didn't want to call yesterday and disturb them. Turns out the baby had a rough start and my friend had to wait 12 hours before she could see him - his name is Joseph. He's doing really well now, nursing like a champ.

A while back (maybe a year and a half) I wrote about her here. She was finally pregnant for the first time at 38 years old. Then during my absence from the KT, she miscarried. It was so sad. She has wanted to be a mother for sooooo long but she kept waiting for her life to be what she saw as ideal. It was really hard for her to see her younger sister have the dream wedding, the big house, and now two beautiful (seriously) little boys. Her sister and I could have conversations about the things she couldn't relate to. I'm not sure what it took for her to finally realize her life was already pretty perfect. Now I would say it really is. He was 6 lb - 14 oz - 20"

She and I met the summer before she started Kindergarten and I started the first grade. My mom decided to go back to work and I was to go to their house after school. They quickly became my surrogate family and I give her mom as much credit in raising me as my own mom. It was the 70's and times were tough with divorce's and other things. We all were going through it and we really bonded then. In high school we hung out with other crowds but everyone knew that we were more like family then friends and no one could come between that. Now that we are grown long periods of time pass between visits and messages but the bond it still just as strong. I'm the one that made all the friends at her baby shower wonder why when I walked in she and her mom and sister all cried.

She's in Monterey and I'm in the valley and although it isn't really far I can't get to her for at least a week. That's probably a good time though. Still I feel so FAR away right now.

If you've made it this far in my post, would it be alright to ask for special thoughts for this little guy and his mommy? I want to give him a super strong start in this uncertain world. We've been waiting a long time for him.

Thanks, Danielle
