Certainly no expert here, but I would not leave the boulder monolithicly out in the lawn adjacent to the rectangular bed like that. I would either move the boulder to overlap the bed, or extend the bed in a curve to at least mid-boulder, continuing the curve "through" the boulder to the outer edge of the deck. This would eliminate one of the awkward corners in the grass by including it in the bed, soften things and pull things together more. I like the multi-level steps and pads down to the drive. Will the stone walls be made from the same stone as seen among the trees? That would be ideal.

Jim you could do a beautiful country cottage type garden with daylilies spaced out and then in some areas put a row of daylilies in other places. Here is what I have mixed with my daylilies society garlic, roses, lark spur, coneflowers, poppies, salvias the small low growing type like black and blue salvia, mealy sage, snap dragons, Summer Phlox, Purselane, Blue daze, even herbs look great with them, I plan on having chive mixed in with mine next year. There is a thread somewhere on here that people have posted pictures of their mixed gardens and they are quite the wow factor. Also don't forget you can plant bulbs of tulips and spider lilies aka school house lilies = red spider lilies and other spring bulb flowers to have something growing all the time. I expanded a bed just a few weeks ago and I'm looking forward to next spring like a kid waiting on christmas :) I'm hoping it turns out great. In the area I have in the back ground crape myrtle, turks cap, large leafed spider lily and will be planting dwarf cannas. In front I have somewhere around 20 daylilies with smaller plants in between to fill out the blank spots. Happy gardening Barb

I would do a sectional with some built-ins as you suggested

Typically, there are two main zones of landscape bed planting: 1) looking inward, from the outside looking toward the house, is foundation planting. 2) Looking outward, from the house toward the lot lines, is perimeter planting. It looks like you could use some of both. One would need a comprehensive view of these areas in order to advise specifics, and we're really not seeing much of either. It would be helpful, since you'll need it anyway, to create a base plan of the property showing all of the permanent features that will remain: house and outbuildings footprints, fences, tree trunks, drive, walks, bed lines, etc. (No small plants.) To get help here, you'd need to add complete views, which are basically panoramas showing an area from beginning to end with some additional space at each end for context. One would line the camera up central to what is being viewed and from a moderate distance away laterally. Often, using a camera's panoramic feature produces pictures too small and lacking important details. Alternatively, one can take a series of slightly overlapping, individual shots which pan the scene. One needs to be there looking through the camera in order to see, or say, which will work out best. Along the lot line, since space is tight, a privacy fence would be a good start, but you'll probably want some large shrubs, very possibly in a tree form, in order to screen out views that exist above the fence.
