Blank canvas, a narrow family room with half vaulted ceiling

We'll be moving into a new home and have a blank canvas to work with.

I wanted to share my idea and ask how would you decorate a narrow family room with half-vaulted ceiling? The kitchen opens to the family room (see attached picutures).

We are thinking of mounting a TV on the far wall; getting an electric fireplaces or entertainment center underneath it. A modern, non-bulky couch; an oval coffee table in front of it and a skinny table behind the couch. Two tall tripod lamps in each of the far corners. A colorful rug?

Furthermore, we're considering installing light oak hardwood and adding two skylights to bring more light in.
