Paint color for all exterior doors and what kind of paint
Comments (7)Red! Red red red red red LOL. Your house has kind of an easy-going relaxed, resort, semi rustic feel, but it has only two colors. A dark color would hold too much heat, but a light color would be a big yawn, and that house deserves some snap. Red is gorgeous, it will add richness, and it will compliment your blue. Maybe some of the experts here can make recommendations on what kind of paint, but since nobody is done so yet, I would use an oil-based satin finish. It's easy on the eyes ( gloss is just too shiny for anything that sits in full sun), and it fits with your houses casual personality. Don't know what feature of any paint would make it worth $38 a quart, unless you're putting it on the space shuttle, but many paints have the primer built in these days. Investigate a little further, and then have fun. It's a really inviting looking house...See Moreexterior paint colors
Comments (25)Joanna, you can sometimes tell by lthe most saturated color on the paint strip. You can order 12" peel and stick samples from https://samplize.com/ to help you decide. I just received some samples from them. They say the samples are the real paint vs just a color chip. Here's a pic of the paint strip. The most saturated color looks orange-y to me but you just have to test it out. You likely already know colors can look lighter on the exterior....See MoreExterior paint color LRV help
Comments (9)I want to go lighter, but I don’t want it to look washed out. The dimension of color you're talking about here is Chroma. Low Chroma colors are weak. High Chroma color are strong. Strong colors have enough colorfulness that it's unlikely they will look washed out. The reason LRV is the wrong number to look at in this case is because LRV has one job. It tells you how much light a color reflects. That's it. That's all it does. Value tells you how that quantity of LRV looks - because that's the job Value does. For example, LRV doesn't convey anything about "depth" or how white a color looks - those are the two most common ways people get LRV wrong. LRV is a quantity and it tells you how much light a color reflects. That's it....See MoreHelp! Exterior paint color needed ASAP!!
Comments (33)great house. I think tan is a horrible choice! sorry, but with all that beautiful greenery and foilage, painting it tan wouldn't look right. (especially w/your color roof) If you did more of a warm gray and addded in some shake/shingles, along w/your siding, I think that would look a lot better. love the orange door w/this too. if you like the green grays, have you tried any of these w/a crisp white? I also don't care for a depressing gray shade, unless you're doing another color w/the trim/doors/windows. what about a blue or blue gray? I like this combo that Celery listed: I like this one too (I believe it's Grizzle Gray paired w/a crisp white trim and a warmer red accent) I belive the key is doing a bright white trim w/whatever color you choose. the current creamier trim color you have looks dull. Personally I like the darker colors that match the greenery. I don't think they stand out (and if they do, in a good way, who cares?) I think either of these w/some wood accents, would look amazing w/your green landscaping...See MoreLori A. Sawaya
