Tile vs. LVT planks in a basement family room.

Once the major work is done in the house, we want to replace the dingy, dirty carpet in the lower level/family room (It was old and ugly to begin with, and now with all the construction work its become totally unusable). We don't want to put more carpet, and are trying to decide between wood-look vinyl plank and wood-look tile. If we did vinyl plank, we would probably try to DIY, if we did tile, we would get someone to do it. The two rooms we want to put it in are about 160 sq ft (office/bedroom) and 290 sq ft (family room). The family room also connects to a bathroom, entryway/mudroom/foyer area, and laundry room. All three of these areas will have different types of porcelain tile. The entire lower level is on a concrete slab (which may or may not be entirely level -- hard to tell right now with the carpet).

Additional wrinkle: My in-laws have just booked their tickets from India for mid-November! That will hopefully be enough time for the contractors to be done and out of the house, but not enough time to paint all the walls, refresh the garage, or do the floors downstairs. So whatever we do downstairs cannot take very long or be too messy.

Cost aside, what are the pros and cons of tile vs. LVT in our case?
