Dark tile in half bath?
Comments (9)Thanks. I read the first reply last night and cringed at the thought of white walls. Would not fit our house. The paint I have chosen is a light, soft color -- a warm silver grey if that makes sense, and you will see it on a 10 foot wall where the floor will only be 3 feet across. The baseboards, door and door trim are white and will remain white. The toilet will be white and the sink is white. The hardware and light fixture are brushed nickel and the fixture has white square glass shades. About half the tile will be wither under the vanity or behind the toilet, so all you are openly seeing is about 3x3. It looks really dark next to the crema marfil now, but I don't think it will seem so drastic next to the wood before too long. I may be able to look some more this week, but am hoping to get to put the tile in this weekend if my brother is up to helping me with it. Thanks!...See Morehow much tile? floor to ceiling or half wall?
Comments (4)Depends on the size and style of the bathroom. Floor-to-ceiling in the shower or tub surround is common, as is tiling the ceiling in those same areas. Countertop-to-ceiling is somewhat common behind the vanity. For the other walls in the bathroom, it's an "it depends" thing; size of the room, features in the room, cabinetry, lighting, style, etc. A half-wall of tile (wainscot) is more common than full walls of tile on regular bathroom walls. There might be a single wall of tile somewhere, a feature wall. The other walls may be just drywall/plaster of just a tile wainscot so color can be added to the room with paint on the upper part of the wall. Being a hard/durable surface, if there is a lot of tile in the room, the tile color will generally set the color scheme if the tile has a color. If the tile is neutral colored, it can compliment whatever accent colors you add later, and those accent colors can be changed over the seasons or over the years for a change of pace. Same with texture. A natural stone tile can dominate a room with color and texture. That might be fine with marble, which is timeless. But if you chose a "current trend", you might find yourself reaching for a demo hammer after a couple of years when the design community realizes sales have flattened out and they come up on the next trend to cram down your throat. If you're unsure about your own style, clipping photos or collecting houzz pics, you'll eventually notice a trend in your collection. That's YOUR style. You can often meld your style with the latest trend, etc, essentially honoring your style and being trend relevant if that's important to you, or if resale may be a consideration....See MorePink tiles in half bath
Comments (40)Hi again -- Lucky you, that's so easy to work around! With your shade of blush, I love the type of muted colors that Terrilyn posted above in her florals example. Obviously test away, but for me B&W and navy work better with brighter pinks. Since you like the idea of deep blue, I'd consider testing a rich indigo, dark slate blue, or, if you want to go brighter, what I think of as "Southwestern sky" along the lines of this: Here are a few more ideas, but they might be too muted for you. Some other deep blues/ purple-blues (and a soft vintage yellow) Pewter and cloud grey Muted red-violet/plum (see bottom right) or milk chocolate...See Morehalf bath side hustle- tile shortage? 2 wallpapers?
Comments (6)Ok, well if it is already a dark little room, are you sure you want to put that dark wallpaper in there? I'd be worried it will feel like a cave. Maybe you need to consider upgrading your lighting in that room. Of the vanity choices you show, my first choice would be the first one. Looks like Dark Oak and a Craftsman type style. That reads the most "farmhouse" to me...the other two are much more modern and the middle one reads very mid century modern to me. The little I've seen of the decor in the washroom doesn't make me think MCM would match. Would it be a LOT of work to get rid of the wallpaper? I think if you are going with the darker coloured vanity and light floors, I'd find a paint colour that works with the flooring colour a bit more than the blue does. Maybe something like BM Seapearl (below). Or maybe you put the colour below the trim piece and white walls above if you are going to have white toilet and sink. I do like the artwork you've got on the walls - very farm like and lovely. A very nice touch....See MoreChris T
