Master Bath Finish Choices; KISS?
Comments (35)Thought I'd follow up. I really wanted the floral faded wallpaper-y tile, but it's just wrong for this dumb lil' phone boothy shower. My second choice I found on Houzz. I thought it was ceramic, but it is a glass tile with an "orange peel" surface so it is not shiny like most glass tile, but it is translucent. I liked glass but did not want shiny. You can also request a range of hues, which I like as it is also less modern. It is by Island Stone, and the price I got was $27 a square foot; versus well over $100 sq ft for the hand painted floral tiles. Here she is: [Modern Tile[(https://www.houzz.com/products/modern-tile-prbr1-br~t_1053~s_2105) by Santa Cruz Tile, Stone & Countertops Island Stone a> I am coupling it with large square limestone tiles (the color of sand) and a limestone mosaic for the shower floor. edited to add: I like the fact that the running bond is not offset 50/50 like it usually is. Small detail but I think it looks different. This post was edited by mtnrdredux on Mon, Mar 10, 14 at 12:49...See MoreMe and my half-baked kitchen
Comments (93)You are (too) kind Voila, and I welcome all ideas! Here is my thinking on the sink skirt. While I do want to repeat turquoise somewhere, there are other, competing goals for the room. I want the kitchen to look old, and I want it to look somewhat utilitarian (since it is unfitted, first and foremost). To me that suggests a simple linen fabric with some texture, in colorways that suggest primitive dying. Handily, i do want to nod to the navy in the chair anyway, and navy is a color that fits the fabric i'm imagining. Hence I am looking for a navy and off white fabric. I did originally think that there was some elusive fabric, whereby people who know what they're doing had already found a good palette for turquoise that I could steal. But all of that fabric feels wrong to me as a sink skirt. The closest i have gotten is this Robshaw print (below), but I still don't think it is the best choice. All of this may beg the question, why buy a turq fridge then? Mostly because I want one, but I can create a logic to it, too. And this is a concept I credit to Palimpsest's postings. I used to think one had two choices for decorating a room. Today, or the original room. It never occurred to me that you could time travel. That you could have a room that says "wow, they haven't touched this kitchen since the 30s. Except when they had to buy a new fridge sometime in the 50s". That is my kitchen's story line....See MoreHelp Needed with Master Bath to Sell Home
Comments (135)The listing has new photos of the new rooms and also the front of the home. I am surprised that the other sites have not picked up the photo changes but do have the price reflected correctly. We dropped our price 22k I would have thought they would have the new pictures by now. I am sure my Realtor doesn't update all the sites he told me that they will pick it up on their own. It has been two weeks since the new pictures went up, too. Anyway my MLS listing is 201316269. If that helps. After waiting a couple of weeks and two cancellations for showings we finally had some buyers come through this past Monday who loves the home but said it was their first day looking so they wanted to look around the area before making a final decision. Anyway I am hoping they come back with an offer in hand soon. I am hoping that the Federal Reserve announcement that they will be raising rates in the near future will get people off their butts!...See MoreVanity vs. Pedestal Sink for Half-Bath?
Comments (60)Yes, I wish I had a little alcove space in my half-bath like Bob's to cradle a sink like that. I also wish the arrangement of my room was like all the powder rooms pictured above, walking in FACING the fixtures. Instead, you walk in facing a window, and the sink is to the immediate right, and the toilet is on the same wall to the left of the sink. You lose a lot of the beauty of the fixtures that way. I love looking straight into the room to see the sink right there. As we've seen from all the pics posted here, a sink and faucet are not merely utilitarian fixtures. They can serve as striking sculpture! (Ditto the toilet actually! There are some beautiful ones out there now!). I'll try to make the best of the configuration I have. (If someone will get their caboose over here to help me with my project!)...See Moremolman
