These are the only "before" shots I have. Sorry. I'll try to update as the project progresses. We're using Revolutionary Carpentry and Paradise Kitchens in Sarasota for all the work. Demo should be underway as I post this.

Base Cabinet Pullout With Soft-Close · More InfoThis is the 10" wide one, which is probably the size you need for a 12" cabinet with a face frame. I would get one for the top, and for the bottom.

Comments (18)I think you've made great choices so far! For the counters, I think a lighter color would keep the room from getting too heavy, with the black vanity and dark gray floor. White granite would be awesome, though hard to find/expensive. Caesarstone nougat and Silestone Mont Blanc are colors to look at if you want a solid surface; just be sure to take the marble-like tile with you when you pick a counter, as the marble can run to the blue end of the spectrum, or the more cream-colored end. It can make a big difference in the overall color scheme. I really like recessed medicine cabinets, so think about whether your contractor could do that. Obviously lots cheaper to install would be a wall mounted cabinet, and those are easy to find in a style that compliments your vanity. If you want to stick with the craftsman style of your vanity, Home Depot has white medicine cabinets that would coordinate really well. And as said above, sconces that go on either side would be possible if you shrink the mirror. If your budget is tight, consider just putting some trim around the existing mirror to create a frame. Even though big mirrors are "out", they can be pretty nice to expand the illusion of space in a narrow room. And consider how the mirror is attached to your wall. If it's heavily glued, removing it will wreck the wall. Are you replacing the tile that's on the rest of the bathroom walls? As for paint, a very very pale aqua can look great with the cararra marble finishes. I'd be careful not to go too blue because it can look cold and/or garish. I actually would consider doing a dark gray wall, perhaps only on the top half if you're keeping tile on the lower half. Comments (5)thanks to all who have posted so far, especially Eric. We can probably save/budget down the road for a kitchen redo, or do part of it ourselves. Additions would be a little harder for us except finish work (floors, tile, etc. Can do drywall even but would need to find time to do it). What that kitchen has is a U shaped layout, not too bad except there are overhanging cabinets between a small dining/family space and the kitchen. It's a counter/pass through kind of setup where someone can sit at stools and talk with the person in the kitchen....except the cabinets hang down so the person in the kitchen has to look under them. We would likely tear those out and relocate the stovetop to the perimeter wall and make that pass through an island. Then that entire space could become kitchen/dining. It is possible we could still move out a wall on that (kitchen) side of the house down the road too, we are in Hawaii so all the construction costs are much, much higher than mainland. So jealous of all the posters here who can put on a large extension for less than 50K. Plan A or Plan B will cost us about the same. We don't plan to sell and move anytime soon, but should we need to we're leaning toward sq. footage instead of just extending current bath and upgrading the kitchen. Our neighborhood is about 20 years old so people are beginning to redo those rooms as the fixtures and appliances are ageing. We redid all the appliances about three years ago with stainless finishes, new faucet/sink, and redid the countertop Corian, so the kitchen is livable - just need to clear out some clutter and make smarter usage on available storage space. We could paint or restain the cabinet doors to freshen it up. A few neighbors are creating the "big bang" kitchen now but I'm not certain a 70K upgrade will improve the value that much as a new neighborhood is planned about 5 miles away within the next couple of years. Would we love to live in a "WOW" kitchen, of course. But as with most people we have to make a decision on where it is best to spend the money for now. We could feasibly also add on a 2nd story in future years, but we prefer the single story and if we age-in-place as planned, the new bath will include wide accesses and no-curb shower....See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums!X-Post
Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! Comments (0)I'm entirely remodeling my bathroom putting in a 68 inch walk in shower from floor to ceiling Carrara porcelain. end wall of the shower that extends out into my bathroom behind my toilet and behind my sink will also be floor-to-ceiling white carrara porcelain. The end of the sink comes out into an L shape to the right side of the sink will also be floor-to-ceiling tile. My dilemma is I don't have room on the right side of my medicine cabinet for a sconce only on the left side. I was wondering if I could put a sconce on the left side on the long wall and then on the right side where goes into an L shape both eye level. two different walls. My other option and First Choice was putting a large round mirror with lighting all the way around it, but it's LED lighting and I've heard that LED causes in reputable damagde to your retina. Of course I have a new exhaust fan with lighting going in but I do need Lighting at the sink. Any suggestions would help. I can guess I could go for a regular medicine cabinet with Lighting on top of it. I need some recommendations please...See MoreNancy in Mich

So... got some new drywall in. The shower nook is roughed out. It'll go the length of the back of the shower. Also, I put the tile on the floor to get a look at it, and my contractor and I figured out that I'm about 4 sq ft short. So that's great. Hopefully I'll have another update in a week or so.

So, I'm not all too sure what happened this week, but the ceiling looks better, the shower is redder, and things look more or less uniform in texture. Also, I did get all of the missing tile in. Home Depot got it in about 5 days and the tile for the shower nook, which will be the same as the shower floor, was available at a local store. Still need to buy grout, but one thing at a time.
We also, I hope, found some cabinet hardware that matches the other fixtures. We're going all shinny brass. The counter top will be back with some white veining (quarts). The cabinets themselves will be shaker white, cause we're super big risk takers there :)
Also, We are going to hold the counter off the wall on the right (in the drawing) by 2" and extend the counter top between the tall skinny cabinet, which I know has been controversial here, by another 2" to try and center the sinks with the mirrors we bought. It won't be perfect, but it'll be close.matttilka
5 years agoNot sure if you can tell, but the walls are a light grey color now. That super redguarded shower is making them look a little earthier than they really are. Also, obviously, we have some tile down.

This is today's progress. So, I understand why everyone had their issues with the tall skinny cabinet. However, now that it's in, I'm glad I stuck with it. The area where the toilet will go feels almost like it's own little world with that cabinet there, which is what I was hoping for.

Almost a week off for the holiday, and we're back. More tile in the shower today. That sheet of little circles is what's going in the shower floor. It's going in the back of the nook too.

Toilet, and some of the fixtures are in. Kingston brass shorted me a pulley for the second faucet. I didn't realize it until about 5 month after I placed the order, so I'm going to call them tomorrow. I hope they can still get me another pulley. As it stands, the second sink won't hold water as the stopper isn't attached to anything.

So, we took off the little bumper lip threshold thing that's on the bottom of some showers, we removed the ceiling soffit, and we put the shower head up higher than it was. The result is the shortest 72" tall shower door ever. I mean, obviously, it's still the standard height, but it sure looks small in situ. I hope it grows on me quickly.

The overhead lights went up too. They are definitely a different color temperature, and we thought we had gone over that. So, there might be a little investigating yet to come, but I didn't bother to show that. The mirrors are far more fun. The little speaker-looking thing about the sink in the second picture is, indeed, one of two speakers. They were a solid $50 find from the interwebs as they are bluetooth and work very well. Exhaust fan is up as well, nothing special there and it's kind of loud for something that was supposed to be 0.3 sones.

Not sure how much you can tell, the the grout is in on the shower floor and the nook.

Got some of the hardware up. Still missing a hook. Another is on the way, and the hand towel rings near the mirrors are in. We didn't want to drill into the cabinet, so we left some space.

Okay. So there is still lots of nitpickery to go about. One of the lights in the ceiling is flickering, lots of holes need to be filled, lots of touch-up paint needs to go on, we don't have our towels/floor mats yet, the inside of the tall skinny tower will eventually have a pull out system with peg board... and other stuff that I can't remember at the moment. But, this is the general idea. Got the lights in for the shower nook and seat. Also, because this is the internet, I added a picture of my cat checking things out.

Okay... I know it's been a while, and I'm still not quite done, but thanks to the idea from Nancy in Mich, I now have a shelf insert that we'll use as a jewelry cabinet. Thank you again Nancy

This is the final incarnation ("final" being almost definitely an overstatement) of the back wall. In other fun news, one of the sinks cracked as it settled, so I'm still waiting on getting that replaced, and about a square foot of the little dot tile in the shower nook somehow discolored despite making sure to buy a grade of porcelain that wasn't supposed to absorb anything. So, that all needed to be chipped out and redone. Super fun. Also, the darker grout in the shower floor tile has some color inconsistencies that I'm just living with.
And finally, trying to spray seal the gout in the shower was a nightmare and there is still some residue that I can't get off the tile. Anyone have any ideas about that?Nancy in Mich
