Surprise! Bonus Plants! What to do with them?
Comments (1)I've had this for a couple of years now....things have sprouted up that I never knew would grow in Florida....it's been interesting to try to identify the 'weeds' that pop up! AND...they pop up everywhere! Who ever knew about blue-eyed grass? and these pretty little 'thistle' like plants.... For the most part, they just get mowed down with the rest of the 'lawn' - which is basically weed, but, hey...it's green, yanno??? (I'm all for banning lawns, but the spousal unit feels he needs to do his part to contribute to the neighborhood!) Anyway, these volunteers either get mowed, as I said, or, every now and then they are moved to a 'safer' place...sunflowers don't transplant well here, but sometimes I try.....and corn will only get so high before the heat zaps it. One of my biggest problems with 'bonus' plants are the ones that get into the truck at places like Lowe's and Home Depot...even the occassional one at Walmart. I really think those exits thru the garden centers should really be banned....See MoreBonus cabinet - what do I do with it - lets get creative!
Comments (13)Nope - it was just to give an idea of size/vision. It was from houzz. the bottom pic shows the actual spot - pardon the mess! (now you can see why I was so desperate for a remodel!) My old "cantry" is the long skinny slotted knotty pine door. The rest of that wall where the fridge is, is now gone but that right corner is where the new cabinet will be. It's depth goes to about where my daughter's artwork is hung. The brick facade will be gone and on that wall is going to be chalkboard paint like this (only right on the wall vs/ cabinet): [Contemporary Kitchen design[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2103) by San Francisco General Contractor Dijeau Poage Construction...See Morebonus room / family room games
Comments (8)Well, we don't watch TV or movies to any extent. We watch football & the news. So, we went another direction in our home. We've got a large bookcase with hundreds of books (some quite rare), a chess set, wood scrabble board, cards, a small stereo system, & my piano. There's a flat-panel 15" TV. I have the custom-made wingback chair of my dreams & DH has a leather chair & ottoman. The wood pieces are all early American antique with a lot of 17th & 18th century wine glasses & decanters sitting around (DH's collection). We also don't have children home any longer so the room is no longer "child-friendly". The grandkids love to sit on Grandpa's lap in that room & play "what's it?" pointing to the various collectibles. But, it's the only room in the house where they can't roam freely. lol In years past, when the kids were still home, we've had ping-pong, tournament-size pool table, much larger stereos, larger TVs, darts, Whirlitzer juke box (really fun!), and a small dance floor. Have always had the books, chess, and one piano or another....See MoreHow would you use a 'bonus' 5'4' wall space?!
Comments (7)Thanks very much for your comments! I think that this looks pretty neat too lavender_lass! My neat freak side (who wants to hide the coffee area!) is locked in mortal combat with my lazy side (who doesn't want to open and close doors!) :-) :-) Thanks very much for your input lascatax. I'm sorry, I have not been able to upload a floor plan which would have been helpful...! But this area is located close to the breakfast table (sort of at the end of the table)... Probably a bit like yours? And ours is immediately beside the fridge. You have been REALLY clever with your use of space - such a good idea instead of a rarely-used door! You have achieved so much in 58"! I can imagine that this would be so very useful on a daily basis!!! You have inspired me...!!! And I love your use of the refrigerator drawers! (I had to look twice!) Our area would not have to close, I suppose. I guess that retractable doors would limit the width of usable counter space to less than 48", assuming that the doors could be 24" max to fit back within the cabinets. Counter space might be as little as 42" really...? That would be quite tight, wouldn't it!!! Thanks very much for taking the time to reply! All the best, Ruth...See Morejmm1837
