Ceiling fans in kitchen-doable or dated?
Comments (24)Save money elsewhere and buy the fanimation fan if it will work (with the pot rack) or go with their air shadow (I think that's what they're called) which have blades that fold up when not in use. I have an air shadow in our library. We still have to paint the blades dark, but here's a pic. We love this fan...and obviously we're not the only one...air shadows come with an on and off (high med and low) and a demo option LOL and we use that demo all the time...people love to turn it on and off and see it fold in and out :) Ours does not have a light, but if you want the option of it looking like a light most times, they have nice globes that can be added that don't resemble 80's fan hell :) Don't go with brushed nickle :oP It pains me to hear that color mentioned....go classic silver chrome or black...it's so much more fun :oP...See MoreKitchen Ceiling Fan-Yes or No?
Comments (6)We "fought" our electrician who insisted that he only did "high-end kitchens, and nobody is putting in ceiling fans any more," and "wouldn't you like some nice pendants instead?" Well, this kitchen, high, middle, or low-end was going to have a ceiling fan, thank you very much. So we found this one: http://www.matthewsfanco.com/Matthews%20Pages/Vent-Bettina%20Gallery.html (image 9 shows ours) When we showed the brochure to our electrician, he proceeded to tell us that we wanted a ceiling fan because we'd found a cool fan, even though we'd been insisting all along that we really wanted a ceiling fan and we went out and found one we really liked. You just can't make this stuff up! Anyway, here are a couple pics of ours in our kitchen (old pics): We think it looks great in our space, and love having it when the weather is warm....See MoreKitchen/Living room ceiling fan and lighting configuration
Comments (0)We are remodeling our home and are unsure of what to do for lighting/ceiling fans. We were planning on having two lighted ceiling fans, one in the living room area ( to the left) and one in the kitchen. We also planned on having a few pendant lights over the island and one over the sink. However, the ceiling fan in the kitchen area will get in the way of pendant lights. Should I put a fan in the living room and forget about the kitchen area? Today I installed the fan cross bars and all the wiring for the two fans but am very willing to redo it in order to do it right. I could also go ahead with the ceiling fans, forget the island pendant lights, and just add recessed lighting instead. I do like the coziness hanging lights over the eating area lends. We have recessed mantle lights in the living room that we plan on keeping as well as to-be-installed trim lights on two perpendicular walls. We were hoping that these lights with the fan light would be a good amount of lighting for the space. What do you all think would make the most sense for this space? I don't want to mess it up!...See MoreKitchen/Living Room ceiling fan and lighting configuration?
Comments (1)I would forego the fan in the kitchen. There's no need for it. Because your sink is right in front of the island, I would go for a pendant only over one of them. It can look too busy to have them over both, especially when they overlap in the sight line. Over the island would be my vote. Recessed light everywhere would be your best bet but don't know your wants or budget. I would consult with a lighting professional, as lighting plans are actually more complicated than people think....See Moresherri1058
