Replacing kitchen light in ceiling and installing ceiling fans?
Comments (1)Have an electrician take down the old light and take a look at the connection. You might need a stronger box, or not. That is a simple fix. Our small LR fan came with the DW but we did have a larger fan/lights installed last year. I think he may have replaced the box. As an aside, Don't put a fan anywhere near the kitchen stove if it is gas. Could blow the flame out, even on low fan setting. I couldn't use my fan in our last house when I needed it most - hot humid days :-(....See MoreKitchen Ceiling Fan-Yes or No?
Comments (6)We "fought" our electrician who insisted that he only did "high-end kitchens, and nobody is putting in ceiling fans any more," and "wouldn't you like some nice pendants instead?" Well, this kitchen, high, middle, or low-end was going to have a ceiling fan, thank you very much. So we found this one: http://www.matthewsfanco.com/Matthews%20Pages/Vent-Bettina%20Gallery.html (image 9 shows ours) When we showed the brochure to our electrician, he proceeded to tell us that we wanted a ceiling fan because we'd found a cool fan, even though we'd been insisting all along that we really wanted a ceiling fan and we went out and found one we really liked. You just can't make this stuff up! Anyway, here are a couple pics of ours in our kitchen (old pics): We think it looks great in our space, and love having it when the weather is warm....See MoreDo you think this inspiration pic is dated? Comments (16)Really like shirlpp's link to laminate -- some very realistic white marbles, etc. If you add a white tile backsplash and white laminate countertop, you'll have a much, much nicer kitchen. I'd also look for a stainless-look dishwasher panel cover so that appliances (other than refrigerator) are consistent. I'd also look for a stainless, covered garbage can, if it needs to be visible. There's a lot of appliances on the counters -- depending on use and preference, you might want to store them behind doors. I really like the kitchen and dining floors -- are they terra cotta tile? It's hard to see the tall cabinet next to the laundry, but I think I would replace it with a nice furniture style armoire or tall cabinet as a large, decorative but functional accent piece. And as someone who LOVES light fixtures, I'd change the boob lights. All in all, I think your kitchen will look great, and I hope you post the 'after' photos to prove it....See MoreMy dated kitchen needs savvy designer help!
Comments (17)That looks great Debbi! Love the cabinets on the far well. I've worked from home for years and have remodeled 2 rental kitchens and two bathrooms. This kitchen is more difficult because the hardwoods were put in after carpet was ripped up 10 years ago which created issues with the toe kick, dishwasher and lack of flooring under the stove. I did not design that, but that's what I have now. The kitchen is basically how I got it when I purchased it with the exception of removing two doors and cutting in an arch to see the view of the lake and living room and adding a much needed pantry in the far right corner of the kitchen. The kitchen needs more storage especially for the broom and vacuum. Definitely want to replace all the cabinets because they were stick built and I don't think person making the cabinets was a cabinet maker because some of the finish pieces aren't level. I was just in there thinking about the dishwasher. I have extender feet for that when the time comes and also thought about moving it and the sink, but since the kitchen is on the 2nd floor and there is a mini hot water heater for the dishwasher and sink along with electrical and plumbing best to leave that where it is currently....See More- 15 years ago
