Tuscan/Mountain inspiration ideas/pics
Comments (6)You know, I'm not even sure!!!! Ha ha...I know I'm just having trouble explaining what I'm going for, so here are a few inspiration photos...(I don't think these are anyone's kitchens from here, but if they are, I apologize, I don't have names or anything saved with these!) I realize these aren't very Tuscan, I honestly don't have too many photos uploaded of those (they are on my hard drive). But I guess when I think 'mountain', this is what's in my mind!...See MoreDo you start with an inspiration pic? Please post!
Comments (14)While there are many rooms I've seen that I'd love to out-and-out copy, minor details like budgets and existing architecture :-) get in the way. Normally it's a piece of artwork, textile, or rug that ends up where I take color, pattern, etc. I don't have a set overall budget per room, really, as I do things very gradually as money becomes available, but I know what I can afford/am willing to pay for certain things. I've only had the chance to really do up one room "from soup to nuts", the master bathroom at my previous house, and I did start with inspiration pictures for that. I saw two pictures of one bathroom in Jane Powell's "Bungalow Bathrooms" and thought "that's my bathroom", but I still only took aspects of it for my own rather than copying it - the high, stained-wood beadboard wainscot and clawfoot tub with English telephone faucet were what grabbed me the most, so those were the "non-negotiables", but I didn't care for the floor tile and white walls so I threw those out the window: My end result: I've got the same situation WRT the will-get-to-it-someday kitchen in this house (it's more or less functional so it has to wait for a few years while we take care of higher-priority items). I found a picture of some cabinets that will fit this house perfectly - they're actually very similar to the trashed remains of a pantry cabinet we found in the shed, so there might even have been something like them there originally - but I hate the appliances and the walls and definitely the colors LOL so it'll definitely be another case of "a little of this, a little of that", but the cabinet style really socked me....See MoreFinished Kitchen Cream & Blue Cabinets '80s ranch refresh pics
Comments (54)kimmieb - What an extremely thoughtful, resourceful and inspiring "refresh" - I am sure you will like it more than you would the 100K kitchen (I do :) because you did it yourself, worked with what you had and made it your own. Not to mention that you used an incredibly fabulous and relaxing color in the kitchen. I say... gray-blue, blue-gray, gray-blue, a little green-gray and maybe something slightly purple-blue-gray - that is where my brain lives these days. My old place was more yellow/beige and fresh greens/blue-greens. I had to fight myself to not make our current place blue-gray inside and out but needed other colors - if only to complement/accent more blue-gray :) It is amazing how color preferences can shift. Believe it or not my horizon's actually expended after many hours on the kitchen and home decorating forum. I even painted a bathroom tomato red! I hope your kitchen inspires more beautiful colorful painted kitchens....See MoreDo you think modern kitchens will look dated soon?
Comments (53)I think as long as the triangle is achieved between sink, stove and refrigerator with some room (as much as can fit!) for all that goes with cooking up a storm, and not installing any 'trends' that overwhelm (columns), a kitchen can remain in style. When my parents moved into their house in the 50's they enlarged the kitchen, and then proceeded to paint the cabinetry (original to the 1930's house) green. One wall was wallpapered. That kitchen stayed on trend right through to shortly before their deaths. The green changed with the times - avocado, sage, apple. The wallpaper did also; small or large patterned. When the trend came for less intricate cabinet doors and wood tones the cabinet doors were replaced with more streamlined varnished birch - which played well off the now deep-avocado cabinets. The last change came when molding was back in style - we wished then they had saved the original doors, but the solid wood plain doors were easily changed up with some molding applied, then painted - white of course (lowers stayed green :-) )! And the floor vinyl went to linoleum and finally wood. After the first change none of these were intensive remodels over the course of 50 years. My kitchen is painted with black cabinets. Upper cabinets are mostly glass-doored. One wall (thanks mom) is wallpapered with a large print containing a beautiful blue, which is repeated on the oven door and in the visible pantry. To achieve this was a major overhaul from the tiny kitchen before it. But I am confident that what we have done will last with a few coats of paint over the years. We didn't do anything that couldn't adjust with the times. The only mistake we made (as far we know so far lol) was to go with marble for all the countertops. We love it, but the fact is that quartz really is a great material!...See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
