Comments (9)Marieskit and pagesturned: The floor is a porcelain tile Monocibec Graal Montesegur. We used it in the kitchen and the adjoining hallway. So far we really love the look of it. We used a random pattern with 3 different sizes of tiles. Thank you all so much for the comments and help with the backsplash. I will start looking at creamy subways. The subway in the picture is actually a Sonama tile in Cirrus -which has a green cast and is a crackle. I have one small sample of a white tile, but may be too white. Breezygirl thanks for the comment about the sink. It was actually this forum that made me look at the cascade sink. When I asked about it at the plumbing supply store we used, they had not even seen that model yet. We also ordered the optional grid for the bottom of the sink. I am anxious to get the faucet installed to actually get to use the sink. We have a grohe lady lux pro going in on Tuesday. I think I will really love how nice and deep the sink is. Thoughts for creamy subways - should I pursue a crackle or just a glossy tile. Also any thoughts on using stainless tiles to do an accent area behind the stove? Do I need a little "bling" in the kitchen or will it just be too busy? Thanks again...See MoreBacksplash help needed
Comments (9)Worn gray barn wood type floors are very trendy. Often the more trendy something is, the less timeless. I was at a flooring store just last week and the flooring specialist agreed that the grays were trending out. What is on trend or not doesn't matter if you love a look, but gray floors with your warm wood cabinets would also not work well color wise - as mentioned before warm woods and cool grays do not bring out the best in each other. Gray has been big while dark woods and whites were the predominate cabinet and trim colors because it works well with those tones. Now that warm tones are returning, gray is being used with a much lighter touch. I would not use it in something you expect to last 20 years like flooring. Wood cabinets, especially oak, have "movement" due to the grain variation and wood tone variation. Your countertop also has movement. If your backsplash also has movement there is no place for the eye to rest. Even if all three surfaces individually are pretty, movement in cabinets, countertop and backsplash comes off too busy as a whole. The subway tile in a cream would probably work the best. Consider cream or sage green for wall colors....See MoreCountertop and backsplash help needed!
