Snake in my hyacinth bean vine

Is this snake poisonous? couldnt get a shot of the head as i couldn't locate. Its in the vine on top of the wood pole. Do we need to call some one?

Any help is appreciated

For future reference should it wander by again post the photo to the Reptiles and Amphibians forum. Perhaps someone there will recognize the pattern and ID it. Hopefully it is the relatively harmless (except to rats and other rodents) Texas rat snake. Let us know if you find out what it is.

Olga, I was getting to eager to wait on a trade and found Hyacinth Bean vine seeds at Rule King. Don't know if you have a Rule King where you live, but they carry Livingston Seed Co seeds. Orcascove, You may also want to start the seed indoors a bit before your last freeze date. They won't sprout in cool soil if you plant them out, mine wait until early july when the soil warms to sprout if I plant them directly. I usually pot a few up in early April for Memorial day planting, even those tend to stall until the ground warms, expect flowers very late August through first frost unless you start them indoors.

FYI, I'm in Zone 5 in Michigan, and MGs reseed quite readily for me. My MIL lives less than an hour from Buffalo, and our temps are usually quite similar, so I would think MGs would reseed there as well. However, IMO MGs aren't that big a deal if they reseed and you don't want them -- just pull them out or mow them down and they won't get a chance to grow and set seed the next year.

I'll second roselee's ID based on the skin pattern. Texas rat snake won't bite you unless you step on it. Looks like this one found an ideal spot to lie in wait for rodents.

HERE are the replies received on the Reptiles and Amphibians forum. It's pretty much agreed that it's most likely a Texas rat snake. An absolute positive ID would require a more detailed photo.
