Where I live now, in Aberdeen, we gravelled the whole backyard due to having multiple horses in the house. LOL..my great danes make a terrible miss on grass so it was the only way. And mud? As in garden? Would be destroyed unless I built a fence around it. We are planning to buy a house soon, so hope to change all that. I can not wait to get into roses outdoors and perenials, grow my own veggies. Lily's too! I hope he builds me a greenhouse, as I am a die hard fan of tropicals. Plumeria and hibiscus are my fave's. Been growing them indoors for a year under lights, and lots of blooms. I also enjoy propagating and starting from seed indoors. Fun stuff! Just a few of the reasons why I would 1,000 times prefer someone to revive a relevant thread rather than start a new one . . . Part of the reason search sucks so much is there are a bazillion threads on "spice storage" (or whatever the topic is). So type in spice and wade through 85 search results. I would much rather similar issues be confined to a single thread. Some of the best threads that buehl has saved and lists are the ones with many many responses over a long period of time. Why do people start a new thread every time they make any little change to their layout to ask for opinions. "I moved the door to the other side, here's a new thread, what do people think". Yeh, what about all of the people who had already spent time helping you and may have been following your thread ? You just disappear off of the original thread with no thought to the people helping you. And what about the people who start helping on the new thread, they have no idea what the background story is and changes that have already been made or rejected and the reasons. I think it is so much better to keep everything confined in one location. CEFreeman, I also find it more interesting to read the entire story in one place. How about the person who starts a new thread for every single possible little decision they have to make. Help me pick my sink. Help me choose my hardwood. Help me pick my backsplash. What color cabinets should I use. Seriously ??? How about keep those things all in one thread. So true robotropolis !! it's polite to revive an old thread instead of starting a new one if your topic is exactly the same. That way people don't have to bother posting all the same info they did before. Then new people can just add on their responses. Not to mention the fact that being able to read all of the old responses might give a new poster an idea for something else and give a new spin on things. And Nosoccermom !! If I remember correctly, only 10 pages of 30, so 300 threads total. And once a thread dropped off the last page, it was gone forever. There was no way to resurrect all of that helpful info. Even if you knew the URL, GW would just show something like "sorry that thread cannot be located". And old threads were no longer searchable either. After a very short time period, you could not even find a cached copy on google.

I didn't know, since my main goal with mussels is to inhale them in great quantity and not let anyone else get any. Any suggestions, you might post on her blog, as we'll be in Marseille for Christmas and could try them. Okay, I'm starting to cook. SWMBO has made two pies and cleaned the house. I have to make a red wine-shallot-balsamic-mushroom reduction, roast a leg of lamb, make a honey glaze and do the ham, then make brussel sprouts with candied walnuts, those are my only jobs for the day. Hopefully I do them well, because SWMBO has been very upset with me. I have been buried in a neighborhood activism project. We are trying to get my neighborhood, Laurelhurst in Portland, listed as a Historic District. I have been writing a website, preparing flyers, setting up an online petition, building a database of houses and neighbors, linking that to an online map to track supporters and opponents, organizing teams of volunteers to canvass door-to-door around their homes, preparing lists of houses to contact and to avoid, beginning fundraising, and generally working a 30 hour/week unpaid job on top of my day job. Which is why I'm not posting so much here, and if you listen to SWMBO - and I would encourage that you don't - completely failing to pull my weight around the house. I've decided that there's been enough sitting around and bemoaning things without doing anything to change them. At all levels, from national to local. I've been encouraging all my friends to pick a cause and get to work.

I've certainly been known to comment on an old thread revival - but this was mainly during a phase when numerous people, not regulars if I remember rightly, kept bringing up old threads apparently without realising they were old, and answering the OPs questions as if it they were still current 10 or more years later. I think this may have been happening a lot because for a while Houzz was putting random undated pictures and posts in the right hand column from different times and different parts the website, maybe to attract people to explore more. I don't think they're doing this, or not so much, now. As far as I remember, I simply (helpfully, I hope?!) pointed out it was an old thread, since otherwise others would continue going to a lot of trouble to answer the original question, assuming (or so I thought) that it was a new/current question and that the OP was still around and needing answers.. and it was when the question was specifically related to the individual asking it, eg asking for recommendations for a particular purpose or conditions, rather than a more general discussion like that lovely, and still relevant thread Cori Ann linked to. I wonder if I may on occasion have been impatient and cut someone off at some point, unnecessarily? If so, I do apologise and will be extra careful in future not to do so.
