Gap between countertop and cabinet. Is this acceptable?
Comments (6)Thank you everyone for your input. I never know if these issues are fairly typical or something to be alarmed about. Hollysprings-We had issues with the bathroom floor being unlevel. The GC, cabinet maker and tile setter worked together installing the cabinet. Maybe that was the best they could do with that crazy floor? Enduring- I see shims and will follow up w GC to ensure there is adequate support. Thank you! Hosenemesis- There is caulk near the walls, but no caulk in the middle of the counter where I see the shimmed area with the big gaps. I sent the cabinet maker a pic. Will follow up when resolved....See MoreCovering Gap between Tiled Wall & Floor in Bathroom

Comments (7)Heed MillWorkman's advice. Any change of plane, whether it is wall to ceiling, wall to floor, wall to wall, etc.. will almost always require caulk of some sort. !00% silicone for anything around water. In other areas, a siliconized caulk, or paintable 100% silicone caulk can be used. I have done a lot of painting, either for myself or others, and I learned from an experienced pro to put a light layer of caulk in corners, around mill work, and wall to wall/ceiling/floors to prevent the paint from cracking/splitting. Comments (3)If you're going to use tiles at the edge to form a water resistant barrier, I see no need to fill in behind them. The tiles you install are unlikely to be as thick as the old baseboard. How will you address the gap between the floor and the new tile base? Perhaps a better choice would be to install PVC baseboard and seal the edges with a sanded caulk to match the tile grout color. Unless you have a drain in the floor, making the room a drip pan will only work until there's a leak big enough to flow out the door....See MoreEd
