Replacing current sink with a single basin sink?

Hello! Is it possible to replace my current sink with a single basin sink without taking off the granite counter top? My sink an undermount that I assume is glued to the bottom of the granite?

Granite sink opening measures 28.5" by 15.5".

If this IS possible, what type of contractor person do I contact? Or should we try to DIY it?

We have a long time pro here who posts projects just like that several times per month. He can perform miracles!

I bought this sink (no kitchen even started!) just to look at the features in person. The box states that it is 20 gauge 304 stainless steel. The black plastic gasket is on the rims of the accessories only. The sink itself has two levels around the rim so that the cutting board can sit on top of both the secondary sink and the colander bowls and still slide back and fourth between them. With both bowls in place, there is 6 inches of open space to enable use of the disposal. The second sink seems pretty unique because the 'stopper' is also a drain that allows you to empty it in place. . The sink is imported by Quality Craft (Canada) from China.

The faucet and dispenser holes are filled with scraps from the cut-out. This is a job I did last week; removing a failed polyester bowl from a polyester solid surface top and replacing it with a stainless steel sink. No countertops were removed in the process. It isn't that much different with stone, the trick is making sure the footprint of the replacement is identical to or larger than that of the original. I've had budget-conscious clients that didn't care that the negative reveals were off on their replacement sinks in stone. Sink, faucet, soap dispenser, and disposal replacement, plumbing, top refinish and cleanup (ooo..it's messy) just over 3K. That's a Mirabelle sink made in Vietnam. Nice.

It depends on how you want to mount the sink - drop in or undermount? For undermount, the only way to do it would be to notch the sides of the cabinet. The sink is 25" wide including the lip. I have frameless cabinets and we notched the sides of one cabinet for a prep sink. Drop in *should* work without notching.

You won't know until the new sink is installed, but I'll bet the disposal will connect to the right side with a simple trap extension and the left will be cut and capped with .89 worth of PVC. No way would I hack that out before verifying.

Yes. I've done it a hundred times and haven't ever pulled a top to do so.

It may be "glued", but is more likely siliconed. Simply release any mechanical fasteners, disconnect the plumbing, then drive a stiff scraper between the bottom of the stone and the sink flange. That thing's coming out, believe me.

I suggest the 3118 from MRDirect. You'll have about a 1/2" negative reveal (the top will overhang the sink) and the corner radii may not match perfectly. I've used this sink many times in this application. Your sink will come out of and the new sink will dunk into your existing cutout.

Some plumbers will take this on. You don't say your level of DIY skill. If you're moderately skilled and experienced, you shouldn't have much trouble. My last one took me two hours complete. Use the pipe-clamp-through-the-drain-and-2x4 method shown here, please.

You'll also want to install the sink with (2) Sink Straps from Regent Stone Products. No clips, please. Side to side, behind and in front of the drain.
