Help me find a bathroom light fixture
Comments (17)Overstock has lots of fixtures in your price range. I like your idea of constructing something of translucent material to diffuse the light from the existing fixture but that sounds like a tricky project! Our main floor bath is smaller, maybe 5 x 8, but a two-light fixture provides plenty of light (including the tub/shower). Our fixture overhangs the mirror so the light seems to be amplified. I'd think that either 3 or 4 bulbs would provide the light you need. Maybe looking at photos of baths can help you decide what style you like. For example, do you prefer something linear or something with curves, as shown in this example? Comments (12)Hmm, I'm not sure about gray walls with the warm granite and dark cabinetry. The undertones of the granite are fighting with that Revere Pewter, IMO. I have used SW Mindful Gray with Giallo Ornamental, but it was tempered by white cabinetry and a lot of natural light. I'm not sure it would work in this case. Accessible Beige might be an option. But honestly? I might try a color rather than adding one more neutral. Your fixtures, mirror frames and granite are really nice and a color might bring them out better....See MoreNeed help with paint colors for giallo ornamental in bathroom,
Comments (24)I agree with eld..there's a reason the middle mirror is there. Can you paint the frames while they're on the wall? I mean, without taking them off? I wouldn't know, but it's not like am a big specialist in painting. If yes-then maybe makes sense painting them first too. Logistically speaking. I still would try to at least find the wall color by the time I'm painting the mirrors...to know what I will be working with. Color of trim/your blinds will work nice; but what if you want to paint them in your wall color, just in different sheen? Will make them less prominent too. Although I suspect they are much more proportional that they seem; the color is throwing them off, because it's very different from the rest, and it makes you concentrate on it=the mirrors seem heavier than they really are. All the greiges that other people describe as perfect greiges-were too cool for me. No Elephant Breath, no Dove Wing, no Revere Pewter-they were very nice when I put them on the paper. Very greige. The moment I taped the paper to the walls-they became simply gray. And I didn't want gray. I wanted greige. Well. Long story short-The room I wanted to be greige turned out to be the room when I mixed my own custom color..:) I don't know how it's called, I named it myself. I just went warmer and warmer until I loved what I saw. I'm afraid it's trial and error. Forget how they call the color, at some point...just try shades that might work, to your eye. You'd be surprised how little resemblance some paint colors bear with their names. And I agree with eld that your mistake is an easy fix. Really. I'm stuck with a prison-cell-looking-window in one of the rooms, because my husband insisted the grids of the window should be proportional to the grids of another window:) Now he agrees with me the grids should be proportional to the window itself, but it's too late lol....See Moreneed low key help with our traditional bathroom
Comments (7)Mix of metals doesn't seem worth worrying about -- that's pretty common these days. I might turn the light fixture to face down, but just because it seems unnaturally high. For the corner/mirror, I think I'd try to find a nice wall cabinet that could go in that space, to act as a linen closet and give you a bit of a more intentional-looking solution. It's probably ok to block that wall switch if it's a duplicate of controls you have elsewhere, but you have to stay slim enough to avoid the window. Ikea has the right kind of thing. (Most of their explicitly bathroom cabinets are tall and narrow, but you could use one of the other bookcase/door/basket systems to the same end.) Otherwise, you can't do much to make it less brown, other than by putting in some colorful rugs and towels with art to match. It's possible that the paint could be a bit cooler, and I suppose you could paint the vanity from red-brown to white, with some effort. But really, this is a perfectly nice bathroom that just isn't to your style. Dress it up in things that feel more like you and then don't worry about it for a while....See MoreBeth H. :
