Comments (8)I agree with donnakay2009, you really need to choose your slabs--no matter what the fabricator says, even if they are from the same lot, they do not look alike. I was attracted to BA when I saw it, but it was one with a lot of black and taupe and big white blotches. That would not have worked in my house, at all--but yet, I loved it. I kept looking at different pieces, and then one Saturday we thought this is the granite for us, we couldn't decide between 2 slabs, we left the place planning on returning on MOnday with a decision. That very afternoon my sales person called me with the bad news--the 2 slabs we were looking at were just sold. She called me right away on Monday, they uncovered the last slab and it was so much more brown--what I really wanted. I saw it, and I think I was so excited--I may have been quite giddy--I called my husband and told him to get there right now to see it, he was busy, told me if I thought it was that great to get it. When he saw it, he agreed--it was the nicest one in the group. So, check them all out, make sure the one you pick works with your cabinets. It is certainly a granite that isn't wild, and yet it's not one you see in everybody's house. Check out Redroze's kitchen on the finished kitchen blog. She might not pop in to the forum when this is thread is active. I know there are a couple of more people with it too. Comments (8)I honestly like the gallo ornamental with your cabinets. That granite paired with your cabs evokes a sense of warmth. Have you checked out pictures of the two combinations? Another website to try is: houzz.com. Under the search engine there, just type in the two color combos and they may have a lot of pics for you to see. I hope that helps without confusing you even more!...See MoreProblem with Giallo Ornamental White?
Comments (12)I had the exact same problem when my granite was installed. It felt so gritty on the surface. I ran my hand over it and was expecting to feel all smooth and wonderful and it was awful, full of grit. I also noticed that water did not bead up. Here is what I did after researching what to do. I got some steel wool and went around the whole kitchen with it polishing in a circular motion. Then I wiped the counters again using a cleaner/sealer countertop product. I always use this now. It helped tremendously but I still had what seemed like little pepper like things on the surface. I was told that lighter stones will shed a bit. Wrong answer. I had no idea about that. After being freaked out for about 2 or 3 months I'm fine with it now. The more you use it the less it will feel like that. It will eventually be smooth but the granite I have is very soft and full of all sorts of mica, quartz and other minerals that I'm told is my problem. I've been disappointed in the surface of it as I expected it to be completely smooth like the granite is in my master bath and laundry room but they are both dark colors. Try the steel wool, it won't hurt it at all since it's soft and it helps remove the granite dust from fabrication. Do it before they come to reseal....See MoreIvory cabinets and Giallo Ornamental
Comments (1)It would really help if you posted a picture. You can pull out a paint color from the granite- I went to this sitelisted below (which came from another GW member) for help in finding a up close shot. Here is a link that might be useful: 1000 Granite colors...See MoreUser
