Comments (18)Oh no, I'm very glad you didn't eat it. I got food poisoning last year from one of my favorite meals (chicken tikka masala) and spent three awful days in my pajamas. I haven't made that dish or bought the yogurt I used again. The yogurt was the only difference I could figure between what I ate and what my husband ate. I'd mixed up a tiny little bowl with some vanilla sugar as a snack while I was cooking and my husband only had the cooked yogurt on the chicken. I know it wasn't the dinner itself, but I still can't get around my mental block. I would hate for you to have such a negative association with something you love. Comments (12)Yes, you can have a fever with food poisoning. If you still have the fever you should probably call a doctor. Also be careful of dehydration. Food poisoning symptoms vary with the source of contamination. Comments (4)Bacteria were covered above...as far as toxins, symptoms like that in a short time would be caused by 'acute' toxicity, i.e. short term exposure to a high level of something. Different from long term risk (like cancer) that is most often associated with contaminated soil. It would take a lot of whatever it was, so unless there is some known source, like a refinery on the other side of your back fence, chemical contamination is doubtful. You'd probably notice odors, etc. if anything was that high. More likely one of you already had the bug and coughed too close to the other, or you both got it from the sandwiches and the third person has a stronger constitution. Comments (14)I don't doubt you one bit. Just trying to track down the cause cannot always be traced. The best way is to bring it to the attention of the 'brand' or supplier. Even a mention will go on the books as an alarm so they can watch for it. Possible others are going through the same. I've had a few bouts with food poisoning and it is no fun. And a strange bug that traveled through work over a period of 5-6 weeks. A mystery and a few other mysteries. It affects everyone a bit differently. A healthy gut will not have the same symptoms as a weak one. An employee meal at a high end restaurant 30yrs ago as a waitress in college we all got sick. One puked, another was driven home, i had waves of bizarre hot flashes for a few hours. The bartender went to the emergency room. I've not had bluefish since. If the nuts are suspect, maybe you could start a sauce pan of simmering water and dunk them for 5 min. (or whatever is recommended). Not sure the method. Many cultures blanch and simmer to purify. I actually simmered a lb of peppercorns a few years ago during a recall. Then dried them, then and into the freezer. Freezing does nothing but slow down the oils in nuts going rancid. Slows down and 'freezes' any bacteria that multiplies at room temp. Does not kill any of it. Heat will destroy if you want to go that way.... I will say, just my opinion, every bout of digestive upset is food related. Eat fresh un-processed food, 3 or less ingredients, even if frozen, and your digestive system, your gut, will deal with any mis-haps....See Moretennessee_swift
