Wallpaper whole powder room or one wall?

Hello,

I like the look of wallpaper behind a floating vanity. Something like this:

I have a small (3' x 6' ish) powder room that I’m redoing. I chose this pattern:

Should I paper the whole room or just the wall that the floating vanity is going on? (which is the wall with the mirror in these photos?

I also agree that your inspiration has tiles.

Depending on the size I like wallpaper on all walls of a powder room as it makes it look like a jewel box.

I would just do the vanity/mirror wall like your photo. Wallpaper is making a comeback but really only as an accent...my thoughts are if you wallpaper the whole room you’ll close it in and make it feel dated.

I agree with Karen Rose. One wall will be a lovely accent with the beautiful paper you've chosen.

Wow, thanks everyone! What a response, I guess I better go whole wall! To clarify, I intend to do four walls - I guess I really meant whole bathroom rather than whole wall. Other than the sink, mirror and toilet there will be a long floating cabinet running from six inches above the floor to six inches from the ceiling. Plus on the primary 'uninterrupted' wall (i.e. no sink, toilet or cabinet) there is a transom, so even that wall will be broken up somewhat. Final point, this powder room will be used by children quite a bit, I have a five year old and a 2.5 yr old (no home daycare though!). I think I can live with the wear and tear factor - I may have to repaper in a few years, we'll see. If it is useful information, the ceilings are 9', so it will still be a lot of wallpaper! Despite all this, people still think I should go for it? Both my husband and I do love the wallpaper (always a good sign). Karin1, good advice about figuring out how many rolls I will need. That may dictate how I proceed a little. Thanks again everyone!

The powder room is all basic white only color is the flooring. I tried to share a photo of the flooring but could not copy and paste. The flooring is 12 x 24 EMSER Swiss Gauli polished. Can you provided some suggestion?

Maureen this was so helpful! Just seeing the two rooms you posted I’m definitely gravitating more toward the first one accented with white. We want to replace the current tiles as well (they’re a darker beige color right now) but are waiting until we’ve done the wallpaper and the paint. I’m new at home decorating (this is our first home) and I know there are so many shades of white out there...I get confused when I even step into the paint aisle. Is there a certain shade of white that would work well with this or does it not matter?

I think the inspiration photo has tile behind the sink!

That wallpaper pattern might be a bit too big for that small wall space.

I think wallpaper on all walls looks more finished and less choppy, especially in such a small space. I am with Helen in the jewel box school of thought for powder rooms.

Oh yes! You’re right, that IS tile! But that is the idea anyway, it would look like that but would be wallpaper instead of tile.

I like the mirrors pictured that have a lighter feel than your mirror does. I'm not a decorator, but I'm in the jewel box camp. Please post a pic when you finish. It will be lovely.

I had those photos saved in my ideabooks for many years.

In my powder room I ended up using an iridescent mosaic tile on all the walls, so I certainly embraced the jewel box concept!

I would also do all walls. We just wallpapered our powder room :D

I have the same size powder room. I could definitely see papering all the walls. There's that long blank wall across from the door where you'll need to hang picture/s and that will break up the pattern.
