What to do with blank wall space?

This wall is part of our front door entry/living room space. There’s about a 4 foot wide area that stretches from the front door (out of frame but to the right of this wall just past another door into an office) down to the curio cabinet. We aren’t quite sure what to do with it. Keep it simple with a large mirror? Do a gallery wall? Should we add a narrow bench or shelving? My boyfriends biggest concern is making the space too narrow with any additional furniture.

I personally do not like gallery walls they are very often just a mess of pics that makes no sense. I would look for a piece of art you both love and be done

No mirror but start a gallery wall, adding paintings or other art work as you find things you like. Please do not fill your wall with commercial art but search out galleries, museums, local artists,

and places you travel to so that your wall is a reflection of you and your tastes and interests. Have fun with this.

Bingo! Just what I thought. So, here's some thoughts for furniture arrangement. Place the love seat on the wall where the sofa is now and place the sofa facing the tv/fireplace. I can't tell how close to put the sofa to the love seat, but I think using the ottoman in front of the sofa is a better placement. Now, with the smaller seating on the wall, you can have a narrow shelf/sofa table behind the love seat for a couple of lamps and décor. Another option is to place the love seat on the window wall and use a sofa table behind it. Adding a bit of color and texture can bring it all together. Any of this of interest? I would have to see the pieces arranged before I could offer any more suggestions.

I like your bedside tables but they are too big for the current location. They feel too visually tight and the one at the door overlaps the door frame - against the visual rules, looks weird. I agree with DM. It looks to me that the wall to place the front of the bed is the one opposite the closet/bathroom door wall. I cannot tell if you have enough room at the end of the bed to do this. It need not be a full wall of solid fabric draperies. It could be translucent fabric. Check out The Shade Store or Smith & Noble Draperies. Or there is always IDEA for a really cheap solution. It's ok if you see the door through the draperies. That should do the trick to pull the room together.

I vote for cushions on the ledge. We find that they are great auxilliary seating when we entertain a group. Also one of the large sculptures or a bold black and white piece of art .

In the long run, I would change up the siding above the garage doors, as Tozmo suggested (I would probably wait until I was painting the exterior to tackle it, though). Add some horizontal trim to divide the two siding zone. Change the direction of the siding, or switch to a wide board-and-batten siding, or do wall shingles. Googling "mixed siding homes" turns up lots of examples. If you are into holiday decorating, you could reserve the space for a giant spider at Halloween, a huge wreath (or pair of wreaths) at Christmastime, and a flag for the 4th of July.

You already have a curio cabinet with varying items in it. So I would think a large original painting would look best on that wall. As suggested earlier, browse art galleries in your area to find something nice.

I wouldn't do a gallery wall, but would look for a very large piece of canvas art - either framed or not - to complete the space.

No mirrors. No gallery walls. Because you already have that piece of furniture in that area, I would just hang a large over sized piece of art on that wall and leave it at that. Find something that gives a nod to the blue you have in your couch to try and make that color make more sense.

If you were to put your curio cabinet on the wall behind the sofa, would that leave enough room? If not, then a pretty big piece of art.

Looks to me like adequate room for a very narrow console table....that would help anchor the wall...then colorful art on top. And a few well chosen accent pieces...lamp perhaps? Good place for a dish for keys, etc.

Try a nice piece of art you love. We wouldn't recommend a gallery wall though. It might be too much.

Are you saying the sofa extends across part of the doorway? If so, I woulds uggest you move the sofa to a solid wall wide or long enough to provide a backdrop for the sofa and place a smaller or narrower piece of surniture against the narrow wall. I believe the colorful artwork looks wonderful, and it seems to be the correct scale for the sofa.
