Viking Speed Oven vs Microwave/Convection
Comments (8)The Speed oven is our only microwave. We really haven't run into a situation where this is a problem. As you probably know, most things that you "Nuke" don't take all that much time, but it usually a rare occasion where I would say, --- bake a potatoe and then nuke something else after that, but again if I did, most likely the potato would still be hot by the time whatever I nuked was done. Like most of the Posters on here, we tried to pick the best appliances for the job rather than get all appliances of the same brand. All our cooking appliances, (Cooktop, Oven and Speed Oven) are Elux Icon as is the wine fridge. Our fridge is a Jenn-air 48" SXS built in and panneled,we like it because of it's variable speed compressor, its works are above, making it easy to change the water filter and vacuum out the dust --yearly, (dust & cat hair less likely up there rather than at floor level). We like the digital controls for it--it has 3 sets of these controls--so you can set 3 different temps in the fridge--(one for main compartment, another temp for the "Chrisper" and a 3rd temp for the meat keeper. All have digital readouts which display the actual temps of those areas (Instead of just what you have them set for). Fridge has been quiet and trouble free for over 4 years now. For a while Elux was getting many negative reviews on their fridges (circa 2006-2009) and some folks here have started buying the newer (2010) Elux Fridges--but too early to tell yet if Elux solved their Fridge Problems, so "at best" you would be exploring "Unknown territory". Pretty much the same for Elux Dishwashers---not much info yet. We went with the Miele Optima Dishwasher because , at the time (2005-2006) it was the only DW with the top cutler tray (That was a "Must Have" for wife and I)--We both hated digging silverware out of those "dern Low baskets" Anyway, as you probably have seen , from my "Many posts", we have been very happy with the decisions we made as far as kitchen appliances, and all have met or exceeded our expectations--particularly the induction cooktop. Good luck with your pending decisions!! Gary...See MoreWolf microwave/convection oven has some "speed oven" options.
Comments (1)Speed ovens rock! Wait til you try baked potatoes - I made giant (over 1 lb each) in our GE advantium in 9 minutes flat - I have the Wolf oven but the GE monogram speed oven Definitely give it a try!...See MoreWhat is Microwave Oven / Convection Oven / Speed Oven?
Comments (6)I have the Monogram Advantium. It's a multi-purpose oven. It can act as a convection oven - basically just a second oven and it can also broil. I use this for anything small where there's no point in heating up the big oven. Mine can hold a 9x13 pan of lasagna. It's also a regular microwave oven. The speedcook part combines microwave, convection and high powered halogen lights top and bottom. There's an onboard computer that decides how much of each to use for a particular food. The convection and halogen brown, broil or roast while the microwave speeds up the cooking process. We use the speed cook part all the time and we absolutely love it. Browned crispy fish sticks and fries in 4 minutes, crescent rolls in 2-3, etc. It does the best baked potatoes ever. The oven also can act as a moist or dry warming oven which I've used several times but the problem is that when it's warming it can't be doing another cooking job. So I'm getting a new Kitchen Aid warming drawer with my remodel that also does slow cooking like a crock pot. It has a few other features like proof that I use when setting dough to rise and melt or soften for butter. All in all, it's like a swiss army knife. It's the most expensive thing in our kitchen and was worth all the money I saved up to buy it. We absolutely love it. We're glad we got the 220v version too. My mom has the 110 and there isn't enough power. I tried out the different models available at a local appliance store. The Electrolux was nice but the controls were confusing. The Advantium controls were the easiest to use of all the ones I tried with the most features....See MoreRange oven vs speed vs steam vs convection microwave?
Comments (19)I love the huge oven cavity that my Bluestar 30" has ... and I honestly have a need for that large cavity once every few years. It's one of those "when you need it, you really need" it things. But that need doesn't happen all that often. In our current remodel, we are getting a Miele CSO and a Miele Speedoven; those are only 24" wide. I expect that, like everybody else in this forum, I'll use them much more frequently than the big oven. If you never cook for really large groups of people, I could definitely see you be OK with smaller ovens. And from what I can tell, it's not as if a 30" wall oven was small. I do have to caution you though that it doesn't look as if the Samsung oven is an actual combination-steam-oven. Instead, it looks to me as if it is a regular oven that has a steam injection feature. That's a lot more limiting. Please read up on the difference before making a decision. Also, while I don't know anything else about this particular model, this forum is generally somewhat negative on Samsung appliances. They don't really have a great reputation for reliability right now. I wouldn't know whether that applies to their ovens, though, or if it is just their refrigerators that everybody seems to hate on....See Morestir_fryi SE Mich
