Thanks DG. I'll go with spider lilly (Lycoris radiata) because it looks exactly like that. But my naked ladies don't look like that. They look like the photo below and according to Google they're in the Amaryllis family but then so are spider lillies. I guess that's the problem with common names.

Yep, that's the problem with common names. I guess some people call all those bulbs that bloom with no leaves 'naked ladies." I've always called the ones you have spider lilies, and now I want to get some bulbs this year.

Corpse flower, hurricane lily, equinox flower, red spider lily. All the same! These have shown up in abundance suddenly in Alabama. They are a very pleasant surprise indeed! Hopefully the plants wills till be there when I go back in late fall. I'd love to bring some home. The volunteers are all in fairly deep shade and doing very well!

They are lovely surprises showing up in the middle of our lawn this time of year along with a double orange daylily. I've tried moving some to the front flowerbeds a few years in a row but they just disappear and show back up in the middle of the lawn right where they want to be lol. Another example of willful diva plants with their own ideas of where they are gonna grow and where they are not.

There are 3-4 plants commonly known as naked ladies b/c they bloom and foliage follows. Best to use botanical names. This one is lycoris radiata .
