Refreshments for Unexpected Guests??
Comments (31)One thing that I have noticed since we moved back to TX from MA...People just drop by...they don't even think about whether they are welcome or not...they just expect that they will be and truthfully I have never known a time at my house that they were not...If you are busy, no matter what's going on, they will be helping out if necessary even if it's working on a hot water heater or digging a ditch or leveling an RV....they pitch in... Here in our area though a must have is beer...any of the male neighbors and even a couple of females are likely to stop by to say hello or just to see what's going on...they are not expecting food but they'll always be expecting a beer... During my stay in MA...no one...not one single person would presume to stop by unannounced except for a neighbor who had a quick question of some kind and that wouldn't be to visit......but here in TX...quite the opposite is true...anyone might stop by at any time of the morning or evening....it's nice...welike it that way...there's always something to eat in the fridge...cheese...wine...crackers sausage...and since I live with an Italian I always have sauce in the freezer and can put a plate of pasta on the table before you can figure out you're meant to stay for dinner...that's just the way it is in our part of TX. and just to prove my point....when there is a big sale on beer...gotta be in the bottles, word spreads fast in the neighbrohoon...better get to HEB today ...they have Bud light for $11.99 a case. I lived in MA for over 5 years and not once in that time did any friend ever drop by without calling first......See MoreReview my bathroom floorplans (master bath, and also guest/powder)
Comments (51)I think a large family room is a good idea. I like that you are doing a larger shower instead of a shower and tub. We recently moved from the snow belt where we lived over 30 years. The newer houses had 3 car garages, but in almost every garage, there were only two cars and sometimes one. People tend to store "stuff" in the garage. (We are guilty too). In our house we built 15 years ago, we did a 2 1/2 car garage with extra space in the rear. I would choose more room in the house and do a oversized two car garage, but make the garage extra wide and deep. Some of the 3 car garages have no storage on the sides or in the back. Therefore the 3rd stall is all storage. I think you would be wise to have a mudroom/ laundry room between the garage and house. It would also be nice to try and change the living room to where the kitchen/dining area is and move the kitchen/dining area to where the LR is now....See MoreHow does this picture look in my guest bathroom?
Comments (13)Absolutely love the art, but not in that bathroom. Does not go with the mirror. Does not go with the floor. Is a bit too large for that space between shower and vanity. Does not go with the quiet calm aesthetic of the bathroom which I like a great deal. Sometimes in my house, the bathroom is the only place to get some peace! That art is wonderful; place it somewhere else in your home that will highlight it, and that will fit better with its dynamic explosion-of-color aesthetic. I actually do not think you need any art at all in that space between shower and mirror. In my house, that china jar on the left side of the sink would be smashed on the floor in no time with that precarious placement. Belongs on a shelf somewhere out of harm's way....See MoreIs this rug dated? Somehow it's not working in my guest room
Comments (10)The rug and pretty headboard are two strong pieces. With those two classic elements, the cottagecore linen styling isn't getting along, especially the buttons. If the linens were styled tightly with a more luxe aesthetic (like https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Tufted-Blue-Damask-Leaf-Pattern-Upholstered-King-Headboard/27679044/product.html), with smaller pillows sitting lower and hiding less of the headboard it could begin to come together. There are aftermarket tricks like bed frame leg covers that provide skirt alternatives, give the furniture more lift and show more of the classic rug. The skirt does feel dated. I thought your first try with solid linens was more pleasing....See MoreLynnNM
