Unexpected guests - what do you serve?
Comments (35)This usually doesn't happen to me but I've always got enough ingredients on hand for a great big pot of SOUP or SHEPERDS PIE such as: Sheperds Pie: Since These ingred. I always have on hand and just about as good as CheeseCake Factories Sh. Pie Mashed potatoes (I use a good quality instant such as Paradise Valley brand via Costco - why bother with the hassle when they are great!) Just use once packet prep'd,,basically I'd say about 5 cups of mashed potatoes,,we like a lot so you'll have to go with what amount of potatoes your family likes OR...you could just add canned potatoes that you've drained and diced to the meat mixture, I'd say about 2-3 cans maybe. 1 pound of hamburger 1 med. onion chopped (could use dried, minced onion soaked in water to save time here) 1 med carrot diced (I always have the shredded carrots for salad on hand so I avoid that time) 1-2 celery stalks diced (most always have this on hand for salad but could substitute CANNED CORN if you don't have it) 1 can of mushrooms drained 2/3 C frozen peas 2 TBSP dried parsley 1 tsp. dried thyme 1 tsp or more of Worcestershire sauce 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 1 can of Beef gravy I can have this meal done in less than 30 minutes and you wouldn't need to bake it if you made the instant potatoes last, then just put them directly on the hot meat mixture. Basically, brown the meat and onion,,add the carrot and celery, sweat that or cook til tender, then add the spices the mushrooms and gravy. Lastly add the frozen peas. Mix together, put in a 9x13 pan and top with the potatoes. If it all isn't still hot then bake for 30-40 min in a 400 degree oven. Regarding the Soup: The knock off Olive Garden Pasta E Fagioli Soup 1 # hamburger browned with onion, 1 cup slivered carrots (says 7 oz but I just eyeball it or do the shredded salad carrots) 7 oz. celery diced 1 lrg can of diced tomatoes, juice and all 2 cans of beans (either kidney, pinto, great northern, whatever you have and like, could be 2 different ones, drained) 3 regular cans (44 oz.) beef broth or stock 1 1/2 tsp oregano 1 1/4 tsp pepper 2 1/2 tsp dried parsley 3/4 tsp tabasco sauce (optional, I don't) 24 oz of canned spaghetti sauce, your choice 4 oz. of dry small pasta, i.e. those bits for macaroni salad or other small shape Cook the hamburger, onion and carrot. Add celery and canned tomatoes cook about 10 min, drain the beans and add to pot, Add beef broth, spices, spaghetti sauce and pasta. Can be ready in 30 minutes. Makes 4 1/2 Qts. Pretty much everything is canned or frozen, the only iffy thing is the carrot and celery, I've used dried, minced onion soaked in water in a pinch. Everybody loves it....See Moreguest bathroom refresh input needed
Comments (11)it's dated in terms that one can quess when it was put in(in this sense most things are dated or will be); but it's highly desirable for many right now who appreciate retro. there is even a site called Retro Renovation I think..where one can hunt plumbing in color etc together with that I realize that if one's not a fan of a color-one can either get used to it and work around it, or will continue to actively dislike it, and not much to be done about that yes, putting in a white toilet will accentuate the color you seem not to be a fan of...not a whole lot, a bit. Probably because we're so used to toilet bowls being white, it won't make that much of a difference. putting in gray floors would be, one the other hand, very wrong next to that tub and tile, they'll clash, unless you rip them out then it's a whole different scope of work so I'd do something else..seeing how you prefer gray and all see your basket you chose yourself? it's a perfect example..it has tan, and it has gray, and they work together very well, they don't fight, they complement each other what one often can't achieve with switching out more "permanent" materials like flooring, next to other elements, one can achive with accessories, to tie things he likes more with things he likes less say you find a shower curtain that contains both tan and gray (and say, white or off white). If it's substantial enough it'll look very pretty. Can be no-fuss, or can be frilly, or whimsy..that'd depend on your style. Yet the colors will look good. Or. Say you change the toilet bowl, you paint the tub. You leave the tile as is..seems very light color to me. (yes..it's not offensive at all. I wish I had yours))) You put a different floor because yours bugs you. okay, just don't do that gray. Find another neutral. This one will lock you in. If you want driftwood color-which is indeed usually warmish gray-ish kinda wood-it's still much warmer in nature than this gray. And you want it to be like wood. But this doesn't look like wood. It's already more dated than your retro elements. If of course what I see on my monitor is what the flooring is irl. Make it softer, with more beige to it....See MoreWhat would you buy with an unexpected $50?
Comments (56)Well, the extra $50 is now history. I bought the "canyonlands" cutting board, and can't wait to get it. Love that it can act as art displayed in the kitchen when not being put to use, and especially love that it brings to mind so many places in the high desert that have captured my heart. We tend to make entirely too many juvenile jokes about "cutting the cheese" at our house (while, I might add, actually slicing fromage -- not the other thing it refers to), and maybe this pretty piece will compel us to show a bit more decorum. Actually, that's quite unlikely, but we can have a goal. ;-) Here's more of the artist's work. I think his freeform pieces are quite nice: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Inlaidwoods?ref=l2-about-shopname I've so enjoyed seeing how others would spend a $50 windfall, and have definitely gleaned inspiration for things I might like to have in the future....See MorePaint colors and light fixtures oh my!! Guest bath refresh needs help!
Comments (1)We're in the process of doing some minor updates to our guest bath. I have no idea what to do in terms of vanity + wall color or vanity light fixture style/finish. Our new cross handle 8 in widespread faucet is an ORB that leans more to black. Target french country mirror is wood. Am hoping to accomplish a transitional glam aesthetic with a hint of rustic appeal here. Shower curtains and decor will be refreshed accordingly. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!...See MoreMichelle_Switzerland
