Where would you put the fire feature?
Comments (0)So after much debate, my husband and I came to a compromise on some updates to the cabin. The back porch has always been an issue for me in that it was long and narrow. 9’6” x 40” to be exact. Plus it didn’t have a fireplace or wood burning stove, which was one of my only things on my wishlist but obviously not a deal breaker. I did eventually get a layout I could work with. But now DH and I have decided to bump out half of the porch 5 feet. This also gives my husband a usable space for a shop below. So my dilemma is where to put a fireplace or stove. This part of the porch offers the best view of the river, so I’m not sure centering it is the best option, but maybe it is. I’m trying to fit some seating and a dining area in the space. So that portion will be 14’ x 20’ Here is an option with the fireplace in the corner. Any thoughts or red flags?...See Morewhere would you put the washer/dryer?
Comments (8)How much will this cost? Is it worth it to you? The W/D closet needs hook-ups, a vent, new machines maybe (so $5k?) and the the cost of a new small bathroom (20-25K?, sink you have plumbing going there). (btw, have you laid out the new bathroom to see where things will go? It could be a tight fit. You need 30" for the toilet. So if you put it and the shower where the W/D are today, you have a 30" wide shower, which might feel tight) I'm guessing you and your spouse will use the suite on the third floor and the rest of the rooms are for visitors: family and friends. There is another full bathroom on the first floor, so people can use that if there is crunch time getting ready. Only you can decide if it's worth it to you. Or you could spend the money on...many other things (or invest it, so you can retire sooner and spend more time in your vacay home??? ;)...See MoreWhere would you put a chandelier/pendant lights in this kitchen?
Comments (5)We won't have the tile border anymore. Everything is being ripped out and redone. If I have to choose between centering chandelier above dining area or lining it up with pendants, which would you pick? One complication is that our dining table has leaves, so the size (and thus the center) changes regularly depending on my mood, number of guests, etc....See MoreWhere would you put microwave?
Comments (5)Is the brick section to the left of the fridge wide enough for a MW in an upper cabinet? Or do you want to leave the brick exposed as a feature? I like having the MW near the fridge as in the following examples, but you'd need the whole upper cabinet: If it's in the budget, you could use a microwave drawer in the base cabs beside the fridge. BTW, I'm including a link for discussions about using all drawer bases. NKBA guidelines New to Kitchens? Read me first. Discussions--all drawer bases...See MoreNewEnglandgal
