Comments (33)bodica, Very good advice. It is hard to remember to pause and enjoy the experience. I assume we will never do this again. This is supposed to the the "forever" house. :) Days when we make a lot of progress, we are on cloud nine. Days when we don't it hits us hard, but, we will get there and I know it will all be worth it. Analogous to having a baby... sdionnemoore, I love talking to people who are at the same point as us. I really love the SW Blonde strip and all the colors on it. Please post pictures as your paint goes up! I'd love to see them. Humble gold will be the main color in our house, but there are a lot of different colors as well. Here is a link to our blog if you are at all interested in seeing some of them. Good luck with your painting also! Jaymie...See MoreLast minute bathroom design crisis. Please help.
Comments (26)"....How concerned should I be about the color disparity between the shower walls and floor??..." Not as concerned as I would be about the potential for those black screws (perhaps drywall) rusting in a few months time and adding some change of colour too the marble. I would also be worried that the crew did not add a poly layer behind the backer board. I'm sure the installer saved $50.00 using those screws verse the corrosive restating ones the backer board maker's specify in their install manuals. Screws look to close to the floor as well. Would I be wrong in guessing the tile crew screwed backer board to the shower curb on all three sides?...See MoreLast minute layout thoughts - much appreciated!
Comments (30)Remembered one other thing that might be helpful - if you decided to put the microwave in the base cabinet, you aren't limited to the shelf and drawer height ikea offers if you are using aftermarket drawer fronts. I was originally going to put the microwave under the counter so I figured all this out. The holes on the sides of the cabinet boxes that you attach the shelves, drawer slides and hinges to are drilled at 1.25" intervals, so you can have anything in multiples of 1.25". So you could do a 17.5" high space microwave opening (minus half the width of the shelf, so just over 17" really), and a 12.5" drawer underneath. Or an 18.75" space and an 11.25" drawer. If you do this you'd probably want to buy the cabinet base and mock it up (especially if you are using a trim kit) before putting in the door order to make sure it's all going to fit properly and figure out what painted trim pieces you would need....See MoreLast minute kitchen design feedback
Comments (15)You need to supply dimensions in order to figure out what the room can hold. Right now, it's like an overstuffed sausage of appliance choices with no thought as to the work that needs to happen. It's an afterthought kitchen. Not the home's center. I'd personally eliminate the butler pantry and pantry and nook to gain more room width so the island could be oriented to other direction. If the view out the windows is primo, then why is the whole design just ignoring orienting the entire kitchen correctly to capture those views for everyone. That is a fundamental home design flaw that rearranging the Legos cannot overcome. In a new build, it's criminal to create poor design when you have such a blank slate to create anything that can be imagined. Focusing on the small parts instead of the bigger picture is incredibly amateur of your architect. Enough so that I would fire them and choose another. A real architect. Not a "home designer"....See Morenosoccermom
