Sliding hallway doors for MCM
Comments (18)rockybird, I would love to hear what your architect says. I thought $2K was really high too. We went to IKEA to see if we could customize Pax doors this weekend and I think it's possible, but it was so crowded, couldn't find a sales associate that could help us and we were too hungry to deal with it. So we left. I usually can't deal with IKEA unless it's on a random Tuesday morning and no one is there. justgotabeme, that site is awesome! I've bookmarked that for our exterior doors, when we change out. I love some of their designs! We are going back and forth over the doors and the current plan is just to get plan birch panel doors (like the above photo ineffablespace posted), drop a similar header and just call it a day. That would run us about half of the price of those glass IKEA-esque doors, including labor/installation. And it would provide some warmth and wood tones in an otherwise very white hallway. The ventilation will be in the header. Too many decisions, too many decisions. I still need to start my Christmas shopping!! :)...See MoreMCM curb appeal help with side front door
Comments (5)When you can't see the entrance proper, you need to create another entrance that is obvious and which will lead to the hidden entrance. The garage entrance (since that is where one must go) must be dolled up in some way, making it seem inviting. Architectural embellishment is one possibility. The garbage cans stationed at the right side do not help make the entrance seem inviting. They say that this is "where the help enters" ... not the public! The layout of the white gravel mulch is not helpful either. Since gravel is commonly used as paving material, it seems like it is a path that leads to the darkened central area of the house, behind the yellow flowering tree. If it's not the entrance, it's confusing. A different bed line could make it more clear that that is not the case. Here are a couple of possibilities that suggest a direction. I prefer the second bed line and obscuring the central (darkened) area with plantings, though it would require more renovations of the planting. The blank wall of the house warrants more than a single palm trunk in front of it as a method of adding interest. A fan spray of trunks might be better....See Moreneed help with shade of orange paint for front door of MCM
Comments (15)also, the slab IS MCM --this house is in an architectural community famous for original MCMs from the fifties and they ALL have slab doors. Slab doors are the style. Probably because it is an area at fire risk.... every MCM in the neighborhood has just a simple slab. If you put glass in the door the fire rating goes down, so.... I am getting a slab.... that is fire rated. We also replaced all the glass around the slab with high fire-rated glass. In fact, we had an original gorgeous MCM door--but it was dangerous....See MorePaint suggestions on the MCM house
Comments (5)I LOVE MCM homes and I like a really dark gray for the siding with brick usually for MCM. I think the gray / green with brick works better with a more traditional brick home. When and if the time comes when there is bit of money new windows would be a huge improevemnt too. BTW this is a fabulous way to handel low maintenance , great looking landscaping for that style house. And good luck to your Mom .The gray color on the siding in the pic is a good choice and maybe a bit brighter color for the door to make it a bit happier than black...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
