Is it normal for worms to escape to bottom bin

I just started my first worm bin. As my first bin I’m using a plastic tote. I drilled holes in the bottom and top. Everyday I pick up the top bin and I find about a dozen worms roaming around in the bottom bin. The funny part is most are wrapped up having sex. Do they want their privacy?

Its not a lot of worms but just wondering if this is normal.

After I am successful with the plastic tote I am going to build a wooden flow through bin, That’s why I’m looking on line for some DIY plans. If anyone has any pics I would love to see them. I’m not a fan of the totes.

Thanks
