Eliminate walk In closet for bigger bathroom?
Comments (8)We were faced with this exact question when we renovated last year. Our closet is 5x6 so we can hang on both sides but our ensuite is the same size as yours. What we were able to do however was to borrow a bit of space from the main bathroom and enlarge the ensuite shower stall. The plumbing for the ensuite shower stall backs onto the plumbing wall for the bath/shower combo in the main bathroom. We moved the main bathroom bath/shower stall down 16" taking over some room of an underused hall storage space and then enlarged the shower stall. Our GC said that because most people are doing away with bathtubs in ensuites (at least in our area) that a larger shower stall is of more value and it allowed us to keep our "walk-in" closet. We still only have one sink in the bathroom and there is no doubt it is still small. In the room that was left in the hall storage we just put in a bunch of shelves for storage of TP, kleenex, lightbulbs etc. Our house is a 1972 post and beam and people don't expect grandiose ensuite bathrooms in them so we thought this was a great compromise. Don't know if any of this helps but it might....See MoreNeed help with master closet
Comments (8)I totally understand the work gear. My dh actually has his work locker downstairs and a whole wall just like that with short and long sleeved uniforms - even with our new build much more organized closet there just isn't enough room! Will the 5' section be double rods? I too would ditch the water closet and rotate the toilet but that's such a personal preference so....YMMV. As for cubbies - will you have a space for 3/4 hanging for dresses or anything like that? It would leave enough space for a nice sized shelf that you could fit with plugs for charging. How much stuff does he need shelving for? Do you have space for linens in the master bath or are you trying to incorporate that also? Our closet is similar to yours but we split it one side is mine and the opposite is his. The uniforms do take up so much space, have you measured the space they currently are requiring? I will try to post a layout of our closet organizer later, I can't seem to locate the drawing right now....See MoreUpgraded to a bigger place. Need help with living room
Comments (21)Just LOVE that first picture celery girl posted! And, yes if you're going with bright colors, then a sisal rug would be perfect either natural or a color..this one is Pier one,.. I agree that it depends on how brave you are. Many who post here seem so timid--it's refreshing when we find one who's not... I agree that since it's a bigger place, then group your small stuff (if you decide you want to use all of it). Def. all your plants need to go over by the door/window for impact (except the trailing one that's inching its's way down the wall...I just love that!...See MoreHelp needed - design me a closet system - tricky!
Comments (7)I have something similar in my sewing room, although mine is wider and 9’ high. I got a crazy high estimate from a closet place, plus they were going to waste a lot of space using their standard pieces. Instead, I got some double track (heavy duty) shelf standards (kv or similar), two on each end and 12” heavy duty brackets. I found a guy to make shelves to go the width of the ends and fit behind the door casings. I can adjust them as needed. All my fabric is stored there. I had him build an extra u-shaped shelf around the top, where I store bins of lace and embroidery stuff, as well as extra pillows and blankets. I need a step ladder to access the high shelf, but that was always going to be the case with 9’ ceilings. This has proven to be a great system, at a fraction of the cost....See MoreUser
