Hi everyone, I've been a long time lurker and occasional poster on this site and always find excellent suggestions here. I was wondering if I could have some advice on where to place pendant lighting over our kitchen island (with raised breakfast bar area). We ordered 3 pendant lights but am not sure where we should hang them. I'm attaching a link to the floor plan of my kitchen for reference. The island is sort of a stretched L-shape, so the placement is causing us some confusion. Specific questions I have are: 1) Do you center the lights over the work/prep area or over the raised bar area? 2) How high to do you hang the lights (how much space between counter/bar and bottom of light?) 3) Do we spread the lights out or have a closer grouping of 3 lights on one side of the l-shape? mimipadv....the bullet pendants I used over "my" island are little and produce a 12" light pool under each....buuuuuuuut the glass globe ones in my new remodel hold a 100watt regular bulb and really light it up! :0) So it makes a BIG difference in the pendant you choose. I still have canned lights at this house I own, but the tract lights are pointed over the island too(it has hockey puck task lights)....with the pole, there was just too much going on for pendants to look good. HELP please... Placements of the pendants..... The pendants are not centered with the island. I have two options from our builder: Move the left one further out to match with the location of the right (closer to the edge of the island). Doing this would not space out evenly over the whole island because there would be more open space between the two pendants lights. Move both pendants over to the left to centered over the entire island? Doing this would make the right one be very close to the recessed light. oh, but I have some people advice to remove that one middle recessed light (I think it would probably look best), but my husband and I are not ready to lose a light right now.

I really love your 3rd option with the 2 lanterns. I wouldn't worry about it looking stark in there and having a big contrast with the black. It may look that way now, but you don't have any furniture in there yet or accessories. Take a few cues from the photos below. Make sure to implement more warm wood tones or natural fibers such as wood or seagrass stools and a tray or basket on the island. Faux or real greenery, wood cutting boards leaning against the backsplash, a vase filled with your wooden spoons. These small details will really warm the room up! Congrats!
