HELP PLZ. exterior paint colors

I’m not sure what architectural style my home or fall under, though I would think Mediterranean. In particular, I don’t think that the white trim or windows suit the exterior of my home. I think black windows, and stone paneling around garage as well as on the wall where the front door is (Perhaps around the middle window of the second story as well) would give it a more elegant feel. Does anybody have any suggestions on what colors I should choose as well as how I can overall better the exterior of my home? Thanks

Beverly,,,this is every newer home in so calif, built in the last 25 years. these homes are everywhere, not just in OC! due to the pop outs and window shape, I'm guess 90's on this one.

those tile or composite roofs are good for all the fires around here.

as for color, that pig pink, everywhere, needs to go. you need a color for your trim and color for the stucco. blues, greens, golds, creams, all work w/your color roof. What do you like? drive around the countless neighborhoods w/these styles and look for one w/a color scheme you like. take a pic of it.

a new front door would do wonders for your entry way.

this is our flip, turned rental that we did in cream and black. (it was built in 1980) . we put in the xeriscape yard a few years ago. (when this pic was taken)

Do you live in one of those gated communities in Orange County that has hundreds of the same style homes that I saw the last time I traveled there? If so isn't there a home color scheme that has caught your eye in the community?

I don’t think black is right with your roof color - maybe a milk chocolate tone. How far are you willing to take this $$$ wise? All new windows, new paint, new front door? A new front door in a medium wood tone would be nice.

Chris, I'm in TX. Meant to be a lil 'inside joke' some forum members who know me know I've developed several color palettes and specialty color tools. Like a palette of just blues for certain applications, like porch ceilings. So that's why in my color world -it doesn't matter where you live- porch ceilings are blue. :)

I've been looking at high end roofing tile websites and one of them has a color expert that made recommendations for house paint colors with their orange/brown roof tiles. We are wanting to paint the side on our house but leave the brick as is for economical reasons. I am stumped on what colors to choose that will also compliment the brown brick and roof. I am wanting to do a darker siding color and a light trim color. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate!!

I was also thinking about what to do with the entry. Should I make it a double door entry by eliminating the window next to the current door? And should I do wrought iron or wood?

Bright cobalt blue front door. Get a landscape designer to help you plant an interesting front garden suitable to your climate in a mix of rocks, stones, and drought tolerant plants.

depends what you want to spend. those window blocks are very dated, so doing a double door, or even a door w/a full side lite, would look very nice. wood or fiberglass would work.

I like the dark tone trim with the simple roof line in Beth’s flip. I feel with your roof line it wouldn’t be as successful. Any of the doors posted would work...

Agree with Beth H to change out the front door. Even if you just replace the door with something better and not do the double door (for now). Anything would be better than the door you have now. Sorry, those 1990's doors just irritate me, I see them everywhere here and I'm in FL, not CA.

I would also get rid of as many of the semi-circles as you can. For example, remove those plastic window inserts in the garage doors to eliminate those semi-circles. Strongly consider getting rid of the two semi-circle windows too. JMO.

ETA: I would not add stone around the garage either. You are in an HOA. Do they have a list of approved colors? In my area many of the HOA's are highly restrictive when it comes to exterior changes/colors.

if you live in an HOA community, then you have to pick your colors through the association. they usually only have a few choices. (although, I don't think this is a community )

A dark taupe for the main body of the house with the same paint a couple of shades lighter for the trim and around the windows. I don't think black is going to work with your roof.

Visual Concepts, seriously? off course black would work. white/cream stucco and black trim/windows w/clay spanish roof are a classic color combo.

other color combos.

If you want your home to look like everyone else's in the neighborhood, choose a light trim and tan, taupe, sand, or beige color stucco.

Can't think of any stone that would be appropriate to this style house, but perhaps I am thinking a different type stone from what you are thinking.

In Los Angeles* by the way, thank you all for the inspiration. I love the photos of the white Spanish style homes with the dark trim and red roofs. Would it be a good idea to paint my roof red or leave it the color it is? I’m afraid that a painted roof may look tacky

Good lord you can not paint your roof. And I strongly recommend staying away from black or any dark color trim unless you replace all your windows and garage door to the same color. All of the examples Beth posted are fine with windows and garages to match. Your front door is a must do IMO - So up to budget.
