Need help with 27' wall oven
Comments (19)Pammo - I have a range with an lower oven and a smaller (almost useless) upper oven that they used to make in the 1980's. It has to be replaced...which, of course, is what started this whole kitchen renovation - ha ha.Of course, the only time I use both ovens is for holidays when I'm having 14 people or more. BUT also,I have a brother who is kosher and when he comes for Thanksgiving, for example, I have to bake a separate turkey, etc. for him and his family and it has to be double-wrapped in foil and baked in a different oven from all the rest of the food. Hence, two ovens...albeit, only on occasion. It's also good to have a second oven to keep things warm while I'm waiting for other things to cook/bake and I don't see the point to a warming drawer if I have a 2nd oven I can turn on to 200 degrees if I need to. A million years ago in our other house, I had an eye-level wall oven and it was great - and needless to say, I am getting old and crochety about bending these days. I am beginning to think a double 27" convection with a regular microwave somewhere else in the kitchen will be fine. As long as both ovens are self-clean. I know they are in the KA; I don't know about the others - and I have not been able to see or measure any other 27's. I know DCS makes ranges, but didn't know about 27" - I have to do further product research. I haven't seen a DCS oven. The double KA and double Monogram are both around 2700-3000 for the two. The KA has a full extension bottom rack but I haven't seen a GE Monogram with one, which surprises me. The new Icon looks to die for - and has 3 full extension racks, but it is an Electrolux and is so new it has no track record. I don't know if it comes in 27". Hi Gibby. I'll have to check about the Dacor - and Rivendell, I'll see if I can find a 27" Thermador but I think these are much more. I don't need a trophy kitchen - I cook less and less, but do love to bake. And I certainly want a good one. So...thanks for all your input. The only thing I know I am getting is the gorgeous Caldera 30" five burner gas cooktop. After that, everything's up in the air. My KD is coming tomorrow morning, so we'll see where we are. Keep 'ya posted and look forward to hearing more about your new Thermador, Rivendell....See MoreSingle Electric Wall Oven: WHY is it so hard to find a good one?
Comments (30)Although it seems a tangent, bear with me: I recently purchased a stick blender for my mother's birthday, the one I gave her years ago having bitten the proverbial dust. I started research on Amazon, only to find similar sorts of problems with this small appliance as those outlined in the original post here, i.e. so many brands either got glowing reviews or horror stories for the very same product. Quality seemed to be a roll of the dice, no matter how much you paid. I finally chose a popular brand, knowing that the blender could suddenly tank, but also knowing that reviewers said the customer service was outstanding. So, if we're left with mediocrity from the more accessible electric wall oven brands (like Bosh or Electrolux vs the costy Wolf), which have been most responsive when people have had a problem? Kitchenaid seems to have failed roundly in this respect over the past few years, so even if they've solved their problems, they aren't the brand for me. Comments (4)I grew up in a kitchen with two totally different wall ovens. One had a great broiler and rotisserie, and opened to the side. The other was fantastic for baking, especially things that needed a consistent and gentle environment. It was also good for gigantabirds. Both could handle most ordinary tasks. For instance, cookie baking marathons, or multiple chickens. Both were at optimal height. The side opening one could take advantage of what would have otherwise been a dump area by a doorway. The drop down door was by a wall where the other couldn't have fit. The design of my non-attached ovens (Gaggenau combi-steam and single) are so heavily weighted to stacking that they would have looked dumb if they hadn't been. Giving up separate optimal height ovens for that is one of the decisions I question constantly. It solved some other problems, but I still rue it. If you have the money and space for two single ovens, do it! And remember, if they're independent ovens they also don't have to be next to each other if the design works better to separate them....See More27' oven owners - What size cookie sheet will fit?
Comments (2)Not all 27" ovens are the same measurements on the inside - so I would check the manufacturer's specs to find the largest, if that's what you're looking for. I remember being surprised at the wide range of interior space (measured in cubic feet) when I was looking at different 27" ovens. In fact, I chose my Electrolux wall ovens precisely because they were bigger on the inside. FWIW, my largest cookie sheet is 19". Hope this helps....See MoreSammy
