Tuesday's flowers

We are really dry here again and the flowers are suffering even though we are trying to drain the well by watering. The leaves of the corn around us are all rolled up. We got a sprinkle yesterday, but it was just enough to raise the humidity through the roof. I hear we are going to get some relief in the heat but no rain in sight for several days.

Abilene Lillian is one that has not done well this year.

Bob loves the color of Council Fire.

Lots of people rave about Desire of Nations, but it has never done well for us. We are going to move it to see if that helps.

Golden Glitz is a nice tall yellow late.

Overheated doesn't have many of the orange tones today.

I thought I might get rid of Prickled Petals, but I have decided to keep it for a while.

Puffer Fish was looking good today.

Bass Gibson X God Save the Queen was pretty today.

This seedling continues to amaze us with its bright red color and gold edge. It is Sea of Cinders X Happy Holidays to You.

Your seedlings are continuing to look good, some keepers for sure! I’m sorry to hear Abilene Lillian isn’t doing well for you this year, I was thinking about adding it.

Julia, we are in south/central Indiana near the Illinois border. We are also on the zone border too. Depending on the weather trends, the USDA keeps shifting our zone. It was 6a but after last winter, it would probably be zone 5b. We got to 15 below on two occasions this past winter. Cajun Christmas was planted last summer after the region 2 conference and survived the winter just fine. We did, however, have snow cover both times it got so cold. Thanks everybody! Yes, Carnival grew too big. I hate to disturb them but they multiply so quickly. Thanks Jean! There are many names that I don't like but L&F doesn't bother me. Thanks for a comment about Nature's Crown, Nancy. I decided to keep it. Perhaps my taste did change and I now like doubles :) Eenie Allegro is so tiny, maybe people can't find it? ;)

Thanks so much everybody! I think registration pic of Sea Dragon is a time of day, or camera issue. It's a pretty one, just too short for my tastes. Born to Reign blooms for the first time. I have lots of blotchiness this year, last year even my always-blothchy ones were clear. It also struggled after both winters, so it didn't increase and only had one scape. Maybe it's the spot where it is. Mantis, low light is correct :) Not early monring though, it's just that most of y yard is very shady, I know, not what's recommended for daylilies :) And my camera likes to make everything bluer no matter what lighting. Sure Fear Not is redder. I am in NE IA, and no, I won't call it a bad year. Lots of blemishes and bud drop is frustrating but almost all of my flowers survived the winter and about 95% are blooming!

So far Sweet Isabela has given me nothing but perfect blooms, I love it. A few late afternoon garden shots. My garden is really nothing to look at. I am a plopped, just plopping wherever there is a spot. Mostly daylilies, with lilies, black-Eyed Susan's, balloon flowers, ans a few annuals. Walk from my front porch. Daylilies edge the circle drive, bearded iris are in the center, along with peonies and daffs, bloom in the spring. Now a few yellow coreopsis, black Eyed Susan's, and lilium are blooming here and there alone the iris. And must not forget the glorious weeds among the iris!

What an interesting cross of Bass times God Save the Queen. Thank you for reporting on Abilene Lillian. Desire of Nations is well budded here, though scapes are fairly short this year. Puffer Fish is my pick.

So sorry Abilene Lillian didn't do well for you this season. Mine bloomed for a long time this year and set a lot of seed. My favorites are your seedlings!

Your seedlings are also my favorite, especially The lat one. (a keeper) I am sorry about Abilene Lillian too. It has always done well here. Where it stays hot, but humid.

Love the color on Puffer Fish. Really nice looking plant . I have a hard time choosing between your two seedlings. I actually like both the diffferent colors on the two seedlings. The first seems a soft pinky red while the other is a true red . I like both.

You have such great seedlings! That 2nd one is especially great. Abilene Lillian sure looks good, I like Puffer Fish too.

I remember when I was starting out with daylilies......I saw a daylily called Abilene Nan and fell head over heels . Of course it was only available at the time in the USA but I wanted that daylily so badly. Well I never got it and time went on and more new daylilies came out every year , and then I started seeing Abiliene Liliian and never ever heard of Abilene Nan .again. Every time I see Abilene Lillian I wonder whatever happened to Abilene Nan. Is it still out there ?
