Tuesday's flowers

The rain started so I had to stop hybridizing and didn't get any time to take some new pictures. I will post a few that are blooming today (the pictures were taken previously). The first is the ever lovely Lava Flow. It is one of our favorites. It doesn't increase very well for us and its bud count is not very high--low teens for us but the color is like none other.

The next flower is Cajun Christmas. It was new last summer so we don't know how it will perform longterm.

I think you can see a theme here. My husband loves loves loves orange. I like orange but I usually like the flower to have an eye or edge. A plain orange doesn't do it for me. This one is Cajun Dreaming.

Most of my hydrangeas bloom on old wood Lucky you found out because Shooting Star si beautiful. That first seedling may be "regular looking" but the deep purple on is is gorgeous and that is my pick today. kay

What a great shot of Flamenco Christmas, it is my favorite today. Also love your Sweet Isabela and Screaming Queen. Oh, I just looked up Flamenco Christmas, and it is registered as a double! I sure prefer single blooms as you can see that nice green throat.

Mine (LAST CHANCE FOR ROMANCE) did have 2 or so blooms last year. It came as one small fan and is three fans now, I just went and looked. All three fans have scapes but the scape on the largest fan is bigger (older) and closer to bloom while the other two look like they just popped out of the fans so you can see them. If I remember correctly, it is registered as VL. I hope my bloom keeps up and I hope for more rebloom. Just getting a scattering here and there. Like WOBEGONE GIRL is blooming FFO on its rebloom scape in back of ARRAKIS SUNSET, which is still blooming.

I remember when I was starting out with daylilies......I saw a daylily called Abilene Nan and fell head over heels . Of course it was only available at the time in the USA but I wanted that daylily so badly. Well I never got it and time went on and more new daylilies came out every year , and then I started seeing Abiliene Liliian and never ever heard of Abilene Nan .again. Every time I see Abilene Lillian I wonder whatever happened to Abilene Nan. Is it still out there ?

This is more my color choice. This is Mazie Farr. It's a southern bred one that we just planted. Hope it is hardy.

We love eyes and edges. This one is Spacecoast Gone Bulldoggin'. It has made it through two winters--the last one got to 15 below twice--and is flourishing.

Lava Flow is always a looker, and Mazie Farr is a beauty I've never seen before. Thanks for showing it, although I'm further north than you and can probably only admire it in your garden.

I like your oranges with the eyes. I used to prefer the cool colors of daylilies. But now I'm thinking I need more hot colors. I find the lavenders, pinks, and purples I love look pretty anemic on humid days in the mid 90s, and that's what we tend to have here in Nashville.

That Cajun Christmas really caught my eye. I like certain color ranges of orange, and that one is a real attention getter........Maryl

Cajun Christmas would be my pick.It looks to be blooming above the foliage. Looking forward to reading how it does long term for you.

Julia, we are in south/central Indiana near the Illinois border. We are also on the zone border too. Depending on the weather trends, the USDA keeps shifting our zone. It was 6a but after last winter, it would probably be zone 5b. We got to 15 below on two occasions this past winter. Cajun Christmas was planted last summer after the region 2 conference and survived the winter just fine. We did, however, have snow cover both times it got so cold. We usually do not have snow cover that lasts a long time.
