T daylilies 2018
Comments (32)Part 3 TRUE PINK BEAUTY: Always flat. I just wish it had more buds. I may move it to a sunnier spot to see if that will get it out of the single digits. TUSCAN WARRIOR: This looks nothing like the image on the hybridizer's website. This was the replacement for OCEAN ROAR. When I first got this plant and it bloomed, the hybridizer said that it certainly was not TUSCAN WARRIOR and sent a replacement the following year. It is the same exact plant that she said was not TUSCAN WARRIOR. She stated that she even made sure it bloomed before sending it to me. I have never had a plant look so different from the hybridizer's picture. I will see what it looks like this year. TUSCAWILLA BLACKOUT: One of my favorite reddish purple blacks. That's all for me. Thanks for looking. David (Zone 5)...See MoreBest Budded and Branched Daylilies of 2018
Comments (3)Debra, can it really be that time of the year already? Say it isn't so....oh well. Well, I don't generally count buds but I do notice which are best. This inspired me to go check a few and see what I had more or less. Every year my winner is Purple Riot with 5 branches on almost every scape and 5-7 buds per branch or 25-35 buds total. [the mistaken AHS site claims it has 5 buds on 5 branches LOL. I sent them an email today to challenge that and offer a picture. Spiritual Corridor, with up to 20 buds on most scapes. New this year. Russian Rhapsody just slightly less than SC. It's best year ever, an old Munson. No clump shot, unfortunately. Always reliable, more buds than usual. Vintage Wine, the clump in front had 3 way branching and 15 or so buds. Another old Munson. It always performs well, this was a bit better than usual. Acquire the Fire, around 12-15 per scape, 3-way branching. Prairie Blue Eye, another oldie, had 15 on 3 way branching on a couple of scapes, 10 on others. Many of my high performers of past years-Prismatic, Karen's Curls & a couple of others-only had about 10 this year. Brad...See MoreBest Near Whites of the Daylily Season 2018
Comments (36)Now that I am home again, I had to post this lily. It is Voila Francois. No doubt, the most perfectly formed white I have. I don't think I have ever had an ugly bloom on this one. The second is Stardust Dragon. (I don't know this new trick Houzz performed in putting my photos together! Not my intention. It bopped my narrative below it and I have to edit.) New this year. But it multiplied rapidly and bloomed and then rebloomed. I think I will like it . Kate...See MoreDaylilies That Defy Color Description 2018
Comments (21)Well since I had some success posting the other day I thought I would try again . Not holding my breath though. I have a number of daylilies whose colors just dont fit into a nice and tidy color description . There is Trahlyta some days it is very purplish other days it is greyish Milk Chocolate which on some days is definitely chocolate but other days is irridescent and has sparkles on the petals and doesnt really look chocolate at all. Joseph's Coat is a gorgeous bloom with many many colors in it Joseph's Coat but dependent on the day the colors can change . Hard to believe the top 2 pictures above are the same plant . Pigment of Imagination , now there is a plant that defies description . When I first got it and it first bloomed , I thought I had the wrong plant . It looked nothing like the images I had seen and I was severely disappointed .......till later in the day I happened to pass by the spot where it is planted . I did a double take . There in front of me was a completely different plant , and on checking it again even later in the day , it looked entirely different again . Greyish pinkish blueish ....all describe the plant later in the day but in the morning it looks like a very unremarkable pinkish daylily. I have many many more daylilies like this as this is the kind of thing that attracts me to a particular daylily . Something unusual , out of the ordinary....See Moreshive
