Twice The Fun Swap
Comments (16)Please be careful to send enough stamps for return (and original) I recieved 3 packs this week that probably won't have enough postage to return and one with insufficient postage to me. Please check what it cost to send to me to insure enough postage to return. Things to watch out for: 2 stamps is usually not enough if you send a lot of packs, large seeds like corn, have a x-large envelope, or use the plastic bubble envelopes(water resistant)or fiber filled padded ones. also some pkts weigh less than other types like plastic baggies. Cutting sasbe in 1/2 is sometimes sufficient to drop enough weight which is what I will try with those I have already. As well as picking out lighter wt packets (not quality though-I will still send great seeds and wishes when possible). Thanks so much, Abbey...See MoreFrom CNN: Say good-bye to granite countertops
Comments (29)I'm with Kevin, above. Stone slab countertops aren't going away, if for no other reason than that they can be more economical than laminate or tile. A good tile-setter here in LA will charge $125/linear foot or more for installation. If you shop right, you can find prefab 8' long granite countertops for as little as $150, with installation and minor fabrication for a few hundred dollars more. It won't be the finest workmanship at that price, but still, you can get a basic 8' countertop with 4" backplash for $600 or less, installed, while the tile-setter's labor alone will be twice that, without adding in the cost of tile, mortar, grout or hardibacker. Unless you're buying prefab laminate counters at the big box store, toting them home yourself, and doing your own templating, cutting, and installation, you'll be hard put to match the price of those prefab stone counters. Special-order laminate costs about twice as much as prefab stone. So much for "In depth" reporting at CNN....See MoreOne pump or two?
Comments (5)kitamiman- I have a similar setup as yours....plus a few more water features. I have 4 pumps total but 2 do most of the work each day. The other 2 are just for pizzaz during parties. The 2 workhorses are 2 speed pumps. One for the negative edge and pit and the other for the circulation pump. I also looked at a variable speed for each pump but could not justify the extra cost, especially since my return on investment was over 10 years at $.07/KWH. The 2 speed works fine for the negative edge...low speed provides a nice trickle throughout the day moving any surface debris to the weir and high speed is ran for short periods of time throughout the day to clear the weir. Integrating the variable speed to do both adds more complexity and moving parts to your job but can be done easily. Also, I'm not a big fan of using a filter in the negative edge circuit. Our negative edge pit gets dirty especially this time of the year with all the pollen, tree husks and other debris from budding trees (It's essentially a giant skimmer). A simple scoop of this debris from the pit each day with a leaf net (a one minute task) is easier than having to clean cartridges more frequently in my opinion. Just thought I would mention this if you were thinking about using a filter in the negative edge circuit. Also, I see you mentioned running the negative edge after swimming....actually you will need to run the negative edge during swimming to keep the pit from overflowing. Our 2 speed at low speed is adequate for this (40 gpm). Also, highly recommend the autofill in the pit as golfgeek suggests for negative edge pools. In the end, the choice is yours and there are obviously many ways to approach this. Your philosophy and particular application may be entirely different from mine but I thought I would share my experience when deciding this very same thing during our build a couple years ago. Hope this helps....See MoreReturning Land's End purchases to Sears
Comments (13)Alisande: my dh was in a running shoe store. The clerk indicated that peoples' feet change over time. He used to be a 10.5 & now is an 11. So you might want to get your measurements redone. We had no idea that with athletic shoes [you know those extra holes off to the side] can be laced in several ways in order to make the shoe fit your foot/heel much better!...See MoreNancy 6b
