Returning Land's End purchases to Sears

I just received the dress I ordered on LandsEnd.com.

The packing slip states at the top "Take the merchandise and packing slip to any Sears where apparel is sold.

Lands End will then credit your card, issue a refund check or issue a Lands End gift card a few days later.

I don't know what happened with the original poster, for the salesperson to refuse the refund or exchange. That has never happened to us.

I would have taken the mdse and receipt to the store's business office. I know how dense the business office personnel is about company policy - if you are refused there, insist they make a call to corporate.

Me here--OP. I ordered several long sleeve tee shirts for my granddaughter, had them sent directly to her as a Christmas gift last year. None of them fit, even though they were all the same style, different colors. She is a track runner and it is cold and windy where she lives. One was a real icky color, one the sleeves way too long etc, and the quality of materials seemed to be cheap, not heavy like advertised. My DD had the original sales receipt, and asked for a Land End Card or a Sears card. She refused and got quite snotty. It did get credited back to me, and I sent her the money. That is what I was upset, as I felt she lost part of her Christmas gift. Yes, I would have asked for a supervisor etc, but it was my DD and GD handling the problem, about 1500 miles away from me. My GD is 17 and not upset. It was me that was upset. Hope this clarifies the problem. On there web site, there is more than usual complaints about the products, and I used to order from them all the time. Right now, I just find LL Bean with better stuff and better to deal with.

Not all Sears stores carry Lands End.

Update- Sorry for the lack of recent updates I have just wanted to forget about Sears for a while. I also posted this on the Kitchens Forum here at GW and received a response from Dianne from Sears cares but did not see it until now so I did not contact her about my Sears experience. So not sure what could of be done differently. Thank you Dianne for your response. Well Sears did come out and pickup the appliances the next day about 10:30, so that went well. The manager at the store said they would be stored in their local warehouse in our city so they would not be sent back to the main warehouse in other city and have to be re-ordered again. We set up a date for them to be re-deliverered on March 29th to our home. I was happy with this agreement and though all was fine. The important part was that they would be here in the local warehouse and not be backordered........ On Friday I picked-up my mail and to my surprise was a check from Sears refunding our money!?!? What ?!?! Last I heard they would be delivered on the 29th. So I decided to stop in a Sears store closer than the original Sears store and ask what happened. They looked up our file and said that the last information in the system was our appliances were dropped off. It showed nothing about them being picked back up or the new delivery information. Nothing. If I decided to re-ordered them the earliest we would get them would be March 31st. They said to call the manager I dealt with at the other store, so I did. He then told me the local warehouse could not and did not store our appliances as agreed and they were shipped back to other city. He would get my salesman to redo our order and call me back right away within 30 mins (still have not received a call 2 days later). So then the local Sears store said they wanted to have my business, maybe my experience with them might be better, and unfortunately not many stores here sell the brand we wanted. All was well until I asked if they would take a check as the other Sears store did, they said no checks. I then offered to get a bank draft for them, once again they said no. They would accept only major credit cards or a Sears card. I said I do not want a Sears card and do not have a credit card I could put over $10,000 on. He said it was because of the possibility of check not clearing before we received the appliances....... me and the other salespeople explained the appliances would be delivered weeks after the check already cleared, he said no. I told him the other store took my check and he went on and on about how the other store does not follow policy all the time and how tired he is of it.......... I said it was quite obvious Sears did not want my money, one of the salesladies said yeah we're definitely not making this easy on you, and I walked out. So I went to another compeditors store and was able due to a new promotion save $1500 off my order compared Sears so I'm pretty excited!!! Plus the wall canopy vent fan we originally ordered was now discontinued and we are getting the fancier newer model cheaper, yay!!! Hopefully we will have a better experience this time, fingers are crossed, lol. Thanks for listening again. :)

Well Good news! Weissman and Mcmann were right...you get more bees with honey (is that the expression?? why would anyone want more bees?) I won!! I was level headed and just called to follow up on my dishwasher dilemma and they "found" me the same model machine, in a box, brand new, that they will sell to me for the same price as I originally paid! Not quite sure why they have to "return" the old machine I never got and then "purchase" this new one when the cost is the same...but whatever, I'm just happy I'm getting a machine and one without a dent, to boot! So I'm one happy camper (for now, until something else goes wrong with either the credit or purchase amount or the machine is wrong---so many stresses with ordering appliances.) Thank you all for your advice! It was wonderful to have rational voices giving me advice during my battle with corporate america. @saltidawg: "Like Best Buy taken over by amazon.com?" Yeah, neigher Sears or Best Buy has anything left to sell. Last year we were looking for a small freezer. Decided to try Sears, hadn't been there in years. First thing we noticed was there wasn't any other customers in the store. Found a freezer, asked the salesman what the warranty was on the compressor. It was one year. Any reputable company knows that the compressor is the key component and if it fails - well you have a boat anchor - cause they are not worth fixing. An additional 3 year warranty was $100 - the freakin' freezer was only $175!!. Went to Cosco - paid $150 for a 7 cu/ft - with a 5 year warranty. Best Buy: I refuse to patronize stores that inspect your purchase when you leave the store.

I've worked part-time for Lands' End for several years during peak selling periods. I rarely wear anything else! Yes, their clothing runs large, most often in the pants/jeans. Shirts are more true to size in the women's sizes, but tend to run large in the plus sizes. Return anything that is less the satisfactory. It is company policy to have happy customers, no questions asked -- just return it. If you still have the order summary, just send it back. If you don't have the paperwork, call first to get the address (I almost remember it, but forgot the zip). One note for future reference -- strangely enought, LE shoes run small and shallow in the instep. Go figure! Another Linda

Years ago Landsend's quality was top notch...not so much anymore.

Yeah...they did away with the Lands End department at the Sears close to where I live but they still will do returns.

I'm done with Lands End...it's L.L. Bean from now on for me.

Another who is unhappy with Lands End. A few years ago I ordered their squall jacket and love it, but wanted one without the attached hood. After trying a number of times, I finally gave up....their sizes are so strange; the jackets were tight in the body, and the sleeves ended at my finger tips. Too many returns so just gave up. Still love my old squall!

Interesting comments about Lands' End slipping a bit. I used to order shoes and boots from them all the time, and could count on their size 9 fitting me perfectly. No more.....my last few orders have all gone back to sears. I continue to be pleased with their fleece, though, and have gotten some nice things from their men's department for my son.

Alisande: my dh was in a running shoe store. The clerk indicated that peoples' feet change over time. He used to be a 10.5 & now is an 11. So you might want to get your measurements redone. We had no idea that with athletic shoes [you know those extra holes off to the side] can be laced in several ways in order to make the shoe fit your foot/heel much better!

I agree entirely that Lands End is not what it used to be. I ordered and returned a few items and then decided the heck with them. I still like LL Bean.

Cate, I just discovered those extra lace holes and they do make a difference in the way a shoe fits.

Very timely post. I was just thinking about ordering some turtlenecks from Lands End. I bought some Jones of New York shirts which I've bought for years, but these were so chintzy I was really disappointed. I guess I'll have to rethink and look into L.L. Bean. So much for outsourcing.

L.L. Bean has free shipping on anything, any time. I just got a beautiful fleece from Lands End and love it but in the past year I have had to return swim suits and shoes that did not fit or were cheaply made.

Every Sears will accept a Lands End return with original Packing slip. The credit will go to the person who ordered it.....

Land's End started going downhill the day that Sears bought them. It's sad, because the old owner ran a quality company.

I was a Land's End customer for about 20 years...and am wearing an older turtleneck right now! But i've quit buying from them.

Cate, my feet grew with every baby--or, I should say every pregnancy. I started out as a size 7.5, and now I'm a 9. Not all of the Lands' End shoes were too tight.....some were too loose. There was no consistency.

I guess I was not paying attention -- I didn't realize that Sears bought LandsEnd. Now I knew that Clorox bought out Burt' Bees some time ago.
