Houzz Call: How Do You Celebrate the End of Summer?
Labor Day approaches. Tell us your favorite way to say farewell to the vacation season
Well, the kids are back in school in many places all over the country, and Labor Day soon will be upon us, marking the last long weekend of summer and the closing of many pools. What will you do for one last hurrah? Do you celebrate with your favorite people? Perform any special rituals? Houzzer minds want to know!
I’ll start us off with a memory. On most summer nights, my dad and I used to run up to the Anderson Hills Swim Club in Cincinnati right after dinner, about 15 minutes before it closed. The last swim on Labor Day was always bittersweet but couldn’t be missed, and this ritual marked the official end of summer for us.
Perhaps it’s a special picnic or a camping trip? Do you meet up with friends and family for a big outdoor get-together, and use up the last of the hot dogs and buns? Get out the sparklers? Participate in a local festival or a 5K run?

The end of summer also marks the time when many of us have to admit that going out for ice cream all the time is the reason we need to hit the gym hard in the fall. What will your last summer scoop be?
Maybe it’s a specific dinner theme or a signature cocktail? Event planner Cory Martin shared two of his favorite Moroccan-inspired summery cocktails with us in this story. I don’t belong to a swim club anymore, so think I’m going to mark the end of my summer by mixing up a pitcher of his Art Basil for my friends.
