Pineapple Upside Down Cake - does it need more sun?
Comments (5)Thanks everyone, your pictures reminded me of why I bought it in the first place! The holes are not slugs (in my area slugs are small and leave tiny white edged holes) they are probably caterpillars or something else that actually chomps 1/4" x 1" sections out of the middle of the leaves between the veins. It is so damaged, I'll move it to the other side of the bed until it gets a little more size/color on it. Right now it is next to a garden bench at the entrance to my front/side hosta bed and with the holes, it just doesn't give the impression I am after! Better to move it for a couple of years and then try that spot again when it can be a showpiece like the ones posted! Thanks again for the lovely photos, BettyLu...See MorePineapple Upside Down Cake photos please.
Comments (28)sorry... I typed this a couple hours ago, forgot to hit the post button... This is a very sporting hosta. I've got a Pineapple Juice - the name they give the yellow version that lacks the green margin... it was stable for about 5 years and now a good section of it is dark green with a yellow edge... in other words, a sport that looks pretty much identical to Pineapple Punch... or maybe like Pineapple Ripple. The difference, based on their registrations, is that PP is dark green centered and PR is medium green... I'll have to compare some greens one of these days. Anyway, these all come originally from a wavy lanced green one called Pineapple Poll. It is registered as a cross between sieboldianna and lancifolia. I sure don't see any big round blue in it, but it shares a lot of characteristics with good old lancifolia. So... if you have one with no margins, I think you can change the label to Pineapple Juice. (I opposed this for so long, but in fact I think that is exactly what is happening in the tissue culture labs. They clone PUC... then instead of throwing away the all-yellow culls, they rename them. Sometimes the plants go out to growers as small tcs with iffy margins... I know I had at least one PUC tc that went all yellow....See MorePineapple Upside Down Cake Needs Help
Comments (8)no.. i hate the name ... it worse than all the lakesides ... YOU CANT FIT IT ON A LABEL WITH A LABLEMAKER.. OTHER THAN MAKING THE PRINT SO SMALL ... you cant read it anyway ... yes.. its in TOO MUCH SUN .. it MIGHT ... continue to melting out.. because of such.. and if it does.. dont come running back and asking what that disease is ... as babs said.. its all normal .. move it to a spot .. where it is out of sun from noon to 6 ... out of the sun.. during the heat of the day ... and use that logic for anything with a large white center ... the white tissue is a net drain ont eh plant.. producing no chlorophyll .... and on some level.. the plant cant pump enough water to sustain it.. when siting is not proper ... so when this happens... move it to a little more shade ... ken...See MoreRECIPE: Sake Pineapple Upside Down Cake w/ Bl Pepper Ice Cream
Comments (1)I forgot to add this: Instead of the 1/2 cup butter, I used 1/4 cup EV olive oil + 1/4 cup butter and it was fine....See Morejosephines167 z5 ON Canada
