Samsung or Electrolux front load ?
Comments (7)No experience here personally but I'm researching Electrolux and posted this here at gardenweb in the "samsung, electrolux, whirlpool duet.....help me pick!!" thread. I did read this about Electrolux in another forum and I quote: "He learned that there are several gel packs mounted between the tub and the large concrete balance weight on top. Very clever system, the gel packs insure the weight oscillates 180 degrees out of phase with the tub and so the vibrations cancel out! The machine also has a learning feature you turn on once after it is installed, it runs dry and senses the vibration as it ramps up, when it finds the resonant frequency of its particular installation it learns that speed, saves the information and from then on skips right through that speed to avoid vibration." I also wrote this in a different web site... I went to take a look at a new Sears Appliance Showroom close by and looked at the Electrolux and other makes (Kenmore, LG, Samsung, Bosch, Whirpool etc.) Man, the Electrolux is NICE! (saw the EWFLW65HIW) It just seems more intuitive. I like the push to open door, though it hesitates a second before fully opening. It was plugged in and I played with it. Very quiet and pretty cool. I tested the spin cycle and no rattles. The Kenmore HE5t would not spin because it knew there was no clothes in it (after sensing it stopped and the "Add Clothes" light came on). I like the fact that the Electrolux did spin even though there was nothing inside. Liked the push to open pedestal and detergent dispenser drawer. Sounds (button/alerts) could have been much louder (even though I set it to max). Question: I noticed the cycle selector knob pushes in (and stay in until pushed again and it pops out)...is this the "Child Lock Out" feature (or Control Lock Out)? If so, that's better then a two button push or 3 second hold down. Anybody know? My second favorite was the LG's (WM2455HW)...I'm just scared about service issues. Nice design layout. Third favorite the Kenmore HE5t. I just wish there were some real reviews on the these new big 4.7 cu.ft. machines. I can't find any of these on Youtube either. I'm looking forward to learning more about these. Comments (16)I have worked for two family owned businesses. One a twenty million dollar business and the other 80 million dollar. I still work for the last one, but it was acquired by a billion dollar, publically traded business. The ethos and work environment are very different between a family owned and publically owned business. There were years in the family owned business where the owners invested millions of their own dollars in the business and i know that they made less money in those years. You could walk ip to owner and talk with him. You could tell him there were problems with a product that needed to be fixed or improved. He actually listened and spent money on improving the product. We never felt the pressure to cheapen the product to make more money, but keep the price the same or lower. We made a lot of the parts in house. Outsourced machining was usually done locally, not made somewhere in china. A lot of that mentality changed once the company was acquired. Lots of systems and processes changed to meet the new owners priorities. The new owners were not a family. They were an invenment company. No one family owner who saw the company and its employees as part of a larger family. So I dont agree with your premis that private companies are chasing quartely profits. They for sure track them, but there is no preasure pf losing your job if you have a couple down quarters or a year. That makes a world of difference in how the compies are run and how employees are treated....See MoreElectrolux Front Load review:
Comments (11)I absolutely LOVE my Electrolux frontloaders. I have 12 children, and I still get my laundry done before noon most days. The washer is incredibly quiet - you can hardly tell it's on unless it's spinning. The tubs are enormous, and the wash cycles are so much faster than my old pair. I always start my first load on the fast wash cycle (18-24 minutes, depending on color/temp), and then run the rest on the normal cycle (around 50 minutes). 50-55 minutes in the dryer is enough to dry our huge loads, but smaller (probably normal sized loads for most of you) dry in about 30-40. That is just stunning to me. My old dryer often took two hours to completely dry a load. I haven't had any trouble with mold or mildew smells. I run the tub refresh cycle when it prompts me to (something like every 50 loads?) and I'm sure that helps. Just today I washed a top that had a stain on it that I hadn't tried to get out since using my old laundry pair, and the stain was completely gone when I pulled it out of the washer. I'm currently using homemade laundry soap purchased from Etsy, but I've also used Tide liquid HE, and both have given me great results. My only complaints are that the lint filter on the dryer already has some tiny holes in it, after only 2 months of use (albeit heavy use), and that the washer sometimes takes a while to get the load equalized in preparation for spinning. This usually only happens with large loads. The plusses of the machines far outweigh these tiny nitpicks....See Moregetting 80 loads out of Charlie's Soap
Comments (35)When mc was having the sudsing problems with the Whirlpool Duet I had suspected it may have been the detergent. I went out and purchased some Tide HE liquid. Upon using it I had the same trouble as mc with oversudsing and the suds not rinsing out. Out of curiosity, I sent Tide an email explaining my problem in detail. I explained that I had purchased Tide HE liquid for my Frigidaire Affinity. Specifically told them the type of machine too. I informed them about the excessive suds, the poor rinsibility, the stiffness and the fact I can not use fabric softener due to having small children and the effects it would have on the flame retardent on their clothes. I explained that due to the liquid formulas concentration, I was unable to cut the amount of liquid used back to a safe level. I even informed them that I had seen others mention similiar problems on the net. I was very nice in my email and this was the response I got. Mon, 9 Jun 2008 09:29:26 -0400 (EDT) "P&G Consumer Relations" cleanclothes@custhelp.com Thanks for contacting P&G. [Incident: 080608-001294] I'm sorry you experienced oversudsing while using our detergent. There are a few situations that can cause this. They include: -- Using too much detergent for the amount of soil in each load. -- Water hardness level. Less detergent can be used in soft water. -- Do you use cold water for most wash loads? You might be experiencing buildup of detergent and mineral deposits in the outside tub of your washer. This can happen when cold water is consistently used for washing. Here's how you can fix that: add 1/2 gallon of white vinegar to a full tub of hot water. Run the washer through a complete cycle without clothing. If this resolves the problem you may want to repeat the process every 6 months. -- Overloading the washer can be a cause. Suds can become trapped in clothing if there's not enough room for them to circulate freely. -- Using regular detergent in a high efficiency washer. If you have one of the new HE washers, make sure you're using HE detergent, like Tide HE. A final word, it isn't unusual to see suds in the sink when the rinse water drains. The force of the water coming from your washer can generate suds as the tub empties. Since I'm not able to help the way I'd like via email, I'm following up via postal mail. You should hear from me in 7-10 days. Thanks for taking the time to write. Debi Tide Team [---001:001084:47166---] As you can see per the response they did not read my email to them in it's entirety as I had told them I was using the Tide HE liquid. They also totally neglected the fact that the suds were not rinsing out completely aka still seeing suds in the washer, not the rinse water. I also as of yet have not gotten this secondary contact she refered to. To be honest, I really didn't care one way or the other. I just wanted to see what they would say....See MoreDiane
